"shit !" his gravelly cracking voice𓈒 misty with a comically shocked expression on her face , standing stock still by the door she 'd just come through𓈒 "natalie𓈒𓈒"

he 'd scoffed𓈒 "it 's nat𓈒" a hand flew to misty 's mouth𓈒 "sorry !" an awkward silence had passed , nat wishing he could just disappear𓈒 he 'd braced himself for the worst , misty jumping to infantilize him or attempting to blackmail him but to his surprise she 'd awkwardly moved to sit down next to him looking about as shy as he 'd felt𓈒

he 'd cringed at this and yet𓈒𓈒𓈒 "i won 't say anything , nat ," she 'd said emphasizing his proper name𓈒 more silence𓈒 "y'know𓈒𓈒𓈒" she started , shifting to pull her knees to her chest𓈒 "i do it too𓈒" she 'd giggled nervously , blushing at nat 's incredulous look despite his clear embarrassment𓈒

nat had refused to speak , too embarrassed , too exposed𓈒 but misty was content to continue , rambling on about her own regression , and𓈒𓈒𓈒 "oh oh oh ! i always wanted to be a caregiver𓈒" well shit𓈒

despite nat really not even wanting a caregiver , misty had been persistent , giving him her best puppy eyes and everything𓈒 nat had been frustrated but it was clear misty 's intentions were pure and maybe it wouldn 't completely suck getting to know her𓈒𓈒𓈒 "fine ," he huffed , not wanting to argue or have misty turn on him𓈒 "but if i want it to stop it stops , 'kay ?" misty nodded profusely , clearly excited𓈒

things start off tentatively𓈒 misty continuously checks on nat to see if he 's feeling little , speaking to him in a babyish tone that embarrasses nat who is not regressed in the slightest𓈒 it frustrates him to be spoken down to𓈒 he 'll whine at her to "stoooop" huffing in frustration𓈒 "this isn't working , okay ?" he 'll grumble𓈒 "just lay off ," he 'll mutter , stalking off ashamed𓈒

still later when his dad is berating his mom about some goddamn thing out of her control and he begins to drop , it 's misty he calls on their shitty landline , apologizing profusely for the yelling in the background𓈒

as soon as he gets the go ahead to come over , nat 's sneaking out his window with eyes full of tears𓈒 he 's hardly even aware this is the first time he 'll really be regressed around misty𓈒 misty 's waiting for him on the front stoop , a concerned look on her face as she drapes an arm around the weepy boy , ushering him upstairs to her room𓈒

it 's the first time he 's been to misty 's house , yet he 's too worked up to really take it in𓈒 he 's embarrassed and ashamed , and a small part of him is kicking himself for crying in front of misty but more than anything he just needs comfort and misty is more than happy to provide it , doing a surprisingly good job at soothing the regressor , sitting him on her bed and kneeling down below to look at him , a firm hand planted on his shoulder𓈒

misty who cautiously envelops him in a hug , letting him sob into her shoulder , softly shushing him and rubbing a tentative circle into his back𓈒

that night nat runs , apologizing profusely to her the next day at practice , a shy blush on his cheeks𓈒

over time nat grows more comfortable around misty𓈒 he still gets easily embarrassed when she babies him or fawns over him , not used to his more childish whims being encouraged or used to such gentle easy praise𓈒 he 's a very blushy kiddo𓈒

nat has a wide age range , ranging from baby to teen depending on his mental headspace and mood𓈒 around misty he 's typically toddler or kiddo range , tending to feel safe but still quite embarrassed about his regression𓈒 sometimes he 'll involuntarily slip into babyspace which he 's really ashamed of , spending most of his regressed time weeping𓈒 misty is quite delighted to have a baby on her hands , used to playing with her babydolls and having taken many babysitting classes𓈒 it 's so exciting for her to get some real experience𓈒 she 's oh so attentive getting him to calm down , and doesn 't shy away from the idea of padding although at that prospect nat flushes a bright red , protesting vehemently and refusing to look at her𓈒

nat is an outdoorsy little one , something that delights misty𓈒 though he 's shy about going out regressed at first , misty will often take him on backyard picnics and jumping in puddles with him𓈒 nat loves to hike although misty struggles to keep up with him𓈒

sometimes a small nat can get insecure about his height with the way he towers over misty𓈒 although as a tboy , nat will often lament his height in the opposite direction while not regressed yet small nat 's height is a cause for insecurity as well𓈒 how can he be little if he 's taller than misty ? sometimes it causes dysphoria , and may lead to tears of frustration and humiliation𓈒 misty is very understanding of this , however , letting him know it 's okay for him to regress regardless of how tall he is𓈒

misty who has a huge collection of toys and stuffed animals notices that nat doesn 't have any𓈒 he has his one bear but that doesn 't leave his room and she 's actually never been to his trailer𓈒 he 's quite honestly scared to bring her there , worried of what his dad might say or how he might treat misty even were nat to be in his regular headspace𓈒 she doesn't push him about it though , instead offering him one of her old ones , a golden retriever puppy that nat latches onto immediately𓈒

although nat denies wanting any gear (he secretly does but doesn 't want to bother misty , worrying about the cost and where he 'd keep it) , misty is insistent on getting him a few items𓈒 he cries when she surprises him with a brand new dinosaur figurine and a glass bottle decorated with a green dinosaur𓈒 she also gets him a pacifier , apologizing that it 's of the baby variety and therefore not being big enough for his mouth𓈒 still he can 't stop thanking her tearfully , treasuring the items with his entire being𓈒 misty even offers to keep them at her house so his dad can 't find them𓈒

nat can be quite stubborn which misty picks up on shortly after she begins caring for him𓈒 he 's a big thumb sucker , no matter how many times misty scolds him or offers him her pacifier his grubby thumb will end up back in his mouth𓈒 although he 's typically quite obedient this he refuses to give in on much to misty 's chagrin𓈒

Antler Queen/Final Boss is Tai

I feel like this makes perfect sense and is not talked about at all. Tai’s dark persona taking over is really being hinted at this season and it makes sense that the girls will go for that after Shauna (inevitably) goes off the rails and ruins their chance to go home.

It’s even hinted at in the final image of the title sequence plus the wilderness is always giving her stuff (Van getting better, Tai is the most successful of all the girls to come home). I feel like the creepy man she sees everywhere is this dark persona that takes over her and the show is building up to her finally giving in to it.

SHES IS A LESBIAN #TOME WE HAVE TO SPREAD IT CAUSE ITS LITERALLY CANON

misty quigley is a lesbian; a comphet reading of her deprivation tank "realization"

in rewatching misty's deprivation tank therapy, i'm more convinced than ever that misty is a lesbian suffering from compulsory heterosexuality. the entire scene, from start to finish, is about misty accepting that walter has feelings for her (not the other way around), and learning to push through her discomfort with that fact.

the deprivation tank scene begins by establishing that misty is afraid. we see quick transitions and hear bubbling water and see a terrifying fish coming at the camera with sharp teeth. followed by a slightly softer stream of images of walter, interspersed with memories of crystal, and of caligula. misty is thinking about three key relationships in this moment: walter, who is actively pursuing her; crystal, whom she loved and hurt and misses; and caligula, who is the only creature that both loves her, and she loves back.

love is the concept that ties these three together: walter is who she could love, crystal is who she did love, and caligula is who she does love.

and so the memories fade into her fantasy sequence, led by caligula, and he begins to soothe her. this creature that represents real (platonic, obviously) love to her (in that it is true and reciprocated, more than she feels it is with any human) tells her "shake off your blues/i'll set the mood for ya". caligula is acknowledging her fear and her loss, and telling her that he can fix it. that he has an answer that will make all of her problems go away.

which is when walter appears, looking like the leading man in a classic musical; an idealized romantic interest, one her fantasy has turned from a real man into a fictional character. and what does he do? performs for her. misty (per the directions of the song, to just "sit right down") sits and watches. she does not interact with him, because she (and her attraction) is not a part of this. one element of comphet is the inability to picture yourself in a fantasy with a man; misty does not put herself with walter, she does not join him.

and while he and caligula perform, three items float around the screen: the plane axe, a syringe, and the black box (which fluctuates between intact and exposed). these three items are such a fascinating choice, because they, 1) all relate to the actions she took in her need to be useful and appreciated, but 2) also represent some of the ugliest things she has done (at a time when she has recently been thinking about what kind of person these things make her). she is thinking about these moments (her behavior with ben, murdering jessica, and stranding the team/breaking crystal's trust) that cause her great discomfort, at the same time she is trying to convince herself that walter is what she needs. she is comparing the discomfort she has with walter's interest and the validation she would feel from a relationship, to the way she's felt about all of these other bad things she's felt compelled to do.

while these items float, caligula sings, "now sit right down/let your troubles melt away/and you'll be sitting pretty in the moonlight gaze". continuing to tell her to push through the discomfort; just let it go. and if you do? "moonlight gaze" is such an interesting choice, because the moon is most strongly symbolic of women. if she lets go and has this relationship with walter, the other women will think she's normal. (especially after just a few hours prior to this, natalie had said, "we're all like this, aren't we?" this is her chance to prove nat wrong, for misty's own sake and/or for nat's!) this is not the first time misty has displayed behavior suggesting that it's important to her that natalie (and other people in general) see her as desirable as a romantic/sexual prospect: telling natalie about her dates on the road trip to travis, "i bet he thinks we're hookers!" said with glee in the jail, "i have a secret boyfriend, too," whispered to natalie in '96. if she decides to accept walter's interest (a man who is so into her that he is literally fine with her being a serial killer!), then maybe the other girls will see how worthy misty is of affection and attention.

once the dance number is over, misty immediately goes to speak with caligula; again, in her fantasy about loving walter, she doesn't interact with walter. instead she seeks caligula out, because he is the one she feels a real connection to; he is the one who knows her and can reassure her - the one whose reassurance will mean something. (walter, a man she barely knows, has been nothing but a concept to her in this fantasy, and that doesn't change.) misty's conversation with caligula is emotional; she is clearly bothered by the idea that other people see her as a murderer. but caligula doesn't give her an emotional response or solution; instead, he tells her she's a "closer". he points out that, even when things are rough (i.e., even though she doesn't like how walter makes her feel), she can persevere and accomplish her goals. it is this reminder that causes misty to transition the scene to to the final piece.

and oh boy, is that final scene a goldmine. because it begins with a close-up on misty's childhood phone. the phone that becky called her on back in 1992, to tell her that she was disgusting. that no man would want her, and that she would never find "a victim" to sleep with. that moment was foundational for misty's issues, for her desire to be wanted and needed in '96, and her deep need to receive validation from men in '21. this scene is so crucial to understanding misty's relationship to comphet, because one of the key facets is wanting a man to see you as desirable, because that is a woman's value in a misogynistic society. this hits misty so especially hard because she's not just lacking interest and validation from men in school; she hasn't been getting recognition from anyone. (for her to break the black box after just a few hours of receiving positive attention? she was starving for it.)

and so walter calls her on the phone - their backs to each other, literal and emotional distance between them - and starts to tell her that he loves her. but he doesn't say the words. instead he uses morse code to send "uoyevoli": "i love you", backwards. a fascinating choice, because it could be argued that the morse code is representative of their shared love of puzzles as crime solvers. but why backwards? surely the symbolism of the puzzle connection has been satisfied by the morse code.

it's because misty doesn't want to hear "i love you." she wants the implication of walter's desire, she wants to know she has value, but she doesn't want the actual feelings. she wants him to say i love you in a way she can't feel. she wants him to call her and turn his back so she can do the same. she wants to "get the ball over the goal line" and to do that she needs this level of distance.

so this scene with walter? it isn't about walter; it's about recreating that brutal memory. it's about rewriting her past. in her fantasy, walter calls her to prove that becky was wrong, that he is choosing misty because she is desirable. that he does want her. and this is so key because this whole scene is about how walter feels. that walter wants her. in misty's "realization" that she wants to be with walter, it isn't about her feelings at all. the purple flowing line of love comes from walter, the words "i love you" - twisted as they may be - come from walter. misty's only role in her fantasy is to "sit right down" and accept her role; surrender to the fact that walter is the right choice.

and when she does, when she finally, finally comes to the end of this moment, she still doesn't interact with walter. the natural progression of a love confession is physical contact. a kiss, or a relieved embrace. misty seeks neither! in this fantasy of hers where she can have anything, she makes no effort to acknowledge walter at all. instead, she turns to caligula, representative of her real connections. and she celebrates her victory with him. misty can close this deal, can get through this decision she's made, by clinging to the people she does actually care about.

mistylot (slightly) canon divergence

misty and lottie start dating post rescue bc nat dumped both for travis - again - and misty visited lottie at the hospital for a while because she needed someone to talk to about the whole situation. someone who truly understood her (in this instance, at least - two lesbians suffering over a bisexual girl who likes emo boys).

for some reason, they break up during the early-mid 2000's. an ugly break-up, makes both of them spiral into their worst versions all over again. lottie starts the "intentional community" and tries really hard to stay in touch with reality, while misty sinks into reddit and unresolved murder cases until she can't really think of anything else.

and this goes on until natalie gets out of rehab (again) looking for misty and all the canon adult stuff from season 1 happens - mistys love and caring for natalie, an old flame reignites. also, the beginning of season 2 - lotties need to make natalie 'heal' and her attempt to reconnect.

then, inevitably, misty and lottie reunite in s2 in lotties cult - we see them getting all weird during their first interaction, they try to act as if nothing has happened since none of the other girls have a clue about their past together (none of them answered misty nor visited lottie anyway, it was their secret).

they focus on fighting over nat again, just like old times, but obviously it doesn't work: lottie uses nat as an excuse to keep misty with them, misty gets crazy over lotties jealousy of nat...

they keep this chaotic dynamic until nat dies - misty stays in bed for weeks, mourning, and lottie is sent back to the mental facility, against her will. without natalie, they're both the outcasts again, so they try to bond with shauna. lottie tries to stay at her house, learning about her family and befriending callie, while misty tries to do the same she used to do with natalie, she wants shauna to do road trips and solve mysteries with her.

the day shauna asks misty to babysit callie (and lottie, lol) they have such a weird reunion, both mourning and with so many unresolved feelings. misty is clearly mad with lottie, but lottie comforts her and, again, they become each others safe haven.

that's when they start remembering the old times - slowly.

I will never get over the tragedy of misty and natalie. misty tried to plunge a syringe into lisa’s neck because natalie was in danger. misty cried after natalie died. really cried. she wore her jacket like she could keep her alive that way. say what you want about the others, but only misty kept her memory alive. only misty carried her.that breakdown? the mirror hallucination of young natalie? telling misty to don’t take shit from others? that’s what natalie taught misty, which misty always needed but didn’t had.

“she was my best friend.” and she meant it. because natalie was the only one who kept her secret for 25 years. everyone else would’ve outed her, killed her, or just pretended she didn’t exist. but natalie didn’t. natalie was rude and distant, sure—but misty understood that. and still stayed.

she inhaled $300 worth of weed smoke to save natalie’s life because natalie had once saved hers. and it was misty that natalie saw, hallucinated, the night before they ended up in the wilderness. they were tied together from the very start.

their relationship was messy and twisted and painful—natalie punched misty, misty spied on her—but they were there. always. and in the end, misty didn’t mean to take her life. she only meant to save her. she acted on instinct to protect the only person who’d ever done anything for her. who never ruined her life. who, by some miracle, didn’t shut her out completely.

misty helped nat investigate travis’s death not because she wanted answers, but because nat did. because she wanted to help her. it’s so tragic that in a world where no one wanted misty, natalie stayed. they were bound by something feral and unspoken, a string pulled taut across decades of pain and survival and loyalty.

MISTYNAT WEEK THEME SUBMISSIONS

We’re officially kicking off the preparations for Mistynat Week by involving each of you in our voting process! From April 19th to April 26th, we will be accepting suggestions for Mistynat Week’s upcoming theme.

HOW THEMES WORK . . .

Mistynat Week’s theme is meant to provide creators with inspiration for each of the seven days! Our theme will be broken down into seven prompts; one for each day and will serve as a general guideline for our event’s fan-works.

For instance, a theme submission might be “elements,” which could be broken down into seven different prompts such as “fire, earth, air, water, wind, and ice.”

Prompts are intended to be interpreted as literally or as figuratively as creators wish! This means participants may chose to incorporate a prompt’s element literally: such as writing a fanfic taking place in winter for ice or around a bonfire in Lottie’s commune for fire — or figuratively: such as creating a work centered around a specific emotion each element represents (i.e. passion or anger for fire, a character remaining distant or avoidant for ice, etc.)

THEME GUIDELINES . . .

Submissions must be safe for work. In other words, themes themselves cannot be inherently sexual. (Please remember that this is an all-ages event!)

The broader your theme suggestion, the better! We want to give our creators the creative leniency to make each prompt their own.

If you’re not sure if a submission is too specific, don’t worry! You’re welcome to send it in anyway, and we just might alter it to find something a little broader — while still doing our best to remain true to yours.

HOW TO SUBMIT THEMES . . .

You can suggest themes either submitting them to our ask box on tumblr or through ngl! You may send as many themes as you wish until submissions close on April 26th.

Once submissions have closed and themes have been collected, we’ll be posting a poll for participants to vote their favorite. The winning theme will determine our overall theme for Mistynat Week!

Hi everyone! It's been a few weeks since Yellowjackets season 3 ended and we were left with even more mistynat content - we finally reached that moment of their relationship we were all excited about! So much to discuss and think about! To celebrate this epic ending, we have decided to bring back the much loved event that happened back in 2023, but with a new crew and also a rebrand!

“Mistynat Season” was created to encourage and engage in multiple mistynat events during the year and it will begin by bringing back Mistynat week. Our purpose is to unite the shippers and explore our creativity and inspiration by doing mistynat-centered artworks and whatever pieces of fanwork you can think of during the seven days of a whole week, following the prompts proposed and voted by majority!
