Antler Queen/Final Boss is Tai
I feel like this makes perfect sense and is not talked about at all. Tai’s dark persona taking over is really being hinted at this season and it makes sense that the girls will go for that after Shauna (inevitably) goes off the rails and ruins their chance to go home.
It’s even hinted at in the final image of the title sequence plus the wilderness is always giving her stuff (Van getting better, Tai is the most successful of all the girls to come home). I feel like the creepy man she sees everywhere is this dark persona that takes over her and the show is building up to her finally giving in to it.
To me the crux of the story in Yellowjackets will always be a reflection of how modern major societies continuously and systematically fail the most vulnerable.
Every character in this show is a victim one way or another.
Lottie was born into a privileged life but was othered by her own mental illness and constantly failed by a world that continuously silenced and isolated her rather than guiding or dealing with the issues she didn't understand how to address.
Natalie started with nothing. She is the reflection of many children in America who are born into families that do not have the physical, economic, or emotional resources to care for them.
Travis very clearly has some sort of anxiety disorder and has been shown to have a history of being bullied and even ridiculed by his own father. God forbid a young boy have any type of sensitivity. Beyond that, his character is a very deliberate example of a survivor of sexual assault- an issue that is never really addressed by the perpetrators.
Taissa was born into a middle-class privileged family and a great deal of pride and ambition that was likely learned or reinforced in some way. She also was a teenage, mixed race, lesbian in the 90's. She had every instinct and drive to succeed despite a world that was structured so that she couldn't.
Jackie was born into a privileged, suburban, white family- but she was still a teenage girl in the 90s with perceptions of who she was forced onto her.
Shauna was the stereotypical poster child of teen angst in modern America, but she also had a deep set insecurity and maladaptive issues that were never looked at or acknowledged.
All of these children undergo a tremendous amount of stress, loss, grief, pain, and both physical and emotional trauma that changes them forever. But then they return to a world that is indifferent to all of that. Their pain is spectacle. Something to be publicly agreed upon as a tragedy. But they don't ever receive the care they need from it. They are shuffled back into a world they no longer fit into and expected to return to their roles as proper, civilized, demure young women and gentleman.
The tragedy of Yellowjackets was never about the horrors of survival in the wilderness- the tragedy has always been that this is a very clear depiction of how society's indifference and persistent marginalization of those considered "other" can push people to the brink of destruction or their own humanity.
Just wanna point out how if anyone else tried to even attempt what Melissa did to Shauna, Shauna would’ve literally skinned them chin to anus without a second thought. Like Melissa rocked Shauna’s shit with that tree branch, continued to overpower her, and then tried to choke her to death. You can’t tell me that shauna doesn’t have some feeling for her cause she really just let all that slide. We’re talking about bisexual satan, oshauna bin laden, shaudam Hussein, wilderness jigsaw, ect ect
Not to victim blame but maybe if Melissa kissed Shauna she wouldn’t have gotten a bite taken out of her you know how to disarm her use it
guilt? or righteousness?
betrayal? or regret?
“Had Shauna been in a different head space or a different place in her life, this could have been a really beautiful, honest and true relationship.” -Sophie Nélisse in Teen Vogue Article
"do you think mel has to wear jackie's clothes when they make out" what a wild comment. and yes i do.
you KNOW the rest of the team is regretting not saving jackie when they could bc now the tasmanian devil and her little muppet hat gf are wreaking havoc everywhere they go 😭
the idea of melissa having a crush on shauna pre-crash and just silently chanting to herself “i could treat her better” everytime she watched shauna with jackie or jeff is so funny
Love that Van also had a ShaunaHat “these bitches gay” moment this week
As much as I love the "Lottie's homophobic" jokes after the shaunlissa hand hold... yall know that she's just confused, right? She's surprised to see Shauna letting someone get close to her, especially after all of Lottie's attempts.
i need to know how long the melissa things been planned because i just rewatched the last part of season 2 and she was always next to shauna. like just there but never interacting and plenty of us noticed at the time. that is Literally why the crackship started as far as i remember (tho it wasnt popular. like it was a joke in the moment that just disappeared again) because they literally never spoke bar one comment (which was melissa making a dig at shauna btw) but they were always near each other and oh wouldn't it be funny if !! and like now im like... holy shit maybe that wasnt a coincidence maybe that was an actual character choice.
i swear we're all just so used to not getting explicitly queer storylines and everything just being Implied that we thought we were reading into something too much. melissa has been drawn to shauna for a long time and we made it all a joke because how could it be anything more than that. they wouldn't make (arguably) the main character explicitly queer ?? And in doing so basically make her being in love with her best friend canon ?? but they did. they rly did that.
shauna really just needed to kiss one girl for her to start being nice to everyone again huh

If I had a nickel for every time a teen girl wilderness survival show had a homoerotically charged scene where one girl said “I’ll fucking kill you” while another was pinned to a rock/tree, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot. BUT HOW IN THE FUCK DID IT HAPPEN TWICE
(These pics are not mine)
lottie i think we have a new prophet
Looking at their clothes there probably was a wolf hunt somewhere between season 2 and season 3. Also I wonder how did Akilah (I think it would be her since she stiched up Van after wolf attack) made them, like what she used as thread.
I have so many questions and theories what had happen between season 2 finale and season 3.
