@jamcan1: "What's her experience with Devil Fruits? Has she eaten one? Does she know someone who has?"
•° 🖼 °•
•° 🖼 °•
Marie ate a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit at the age of 13, and it happened entirely by accident. This event became known in her family as the "Banquet Incident." Afterward, she was confined to a secluded tower for years and later sent far away altogether.
She learned the true nature of her abilities — that they were not the result of a curse, witchcraft, or "evil spirits," but rather the effects of consuming a Devil Fruit (as well as the existence of such fruits) — only nine years later.
•° 🖼 °•
As for whether Marie knew anyone else with Devil Fruit abilities: indirectly, yes. That person had a similar fate, though Marie’s story had a somewhat more optimistic ending.
To understand the context, it’s necessary to introduce her great-grandmother Adelaide, one of the past queens of their kingdom.
Adelaide was a woman with black hair and green eyes who also faced accusations of witchcraft. Her story became one of the reasons why people were so quick to believe that the "evil spirit" had passed down the bloodline to Marie.
Close monitoring of Adelaide’s female descendants continued long after her reign. Daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters were scrutinized for signs of "curses" or "deviations." However, by the time it came to Marie, the youngest great-granddaughter, such suspicions had mostly faded. Her two older sisters were completely ordinary, which further reinforced the idea that the fears had died out with earlier generations.
Then, the infamous incident happened. When Marie’s eyes changed color from dark brown to green — one of the side effects of her abilities and an unfortunate coincidence — people quickly linked it to Adelaide, reaffirming their superstitious fears. In the eyes of society, the "evil spirit" had indeed passed on to the youngest princess.

Like a proud mom, I want to show how my Marie and Jack have grown - from the first sketches to first more serious works and to what they’ve become now. 🤧
•° 💫 °•
The first sketch of Marie appeared back in November 2023. At first, I imagined her simply as a mysterious artist, but later this turned into the story of an unfortunate girl abandoned by her own relatives on a deserted island because they believed she was a witch. On her home island, people have only a shallow understanding of Devil Fruits, which fueled their fear.
She was a princess from the late Middle Ages — since that’s the +/- same time period where her native kingdom exists 🤷♀️
•° 💫 °•
At first, Jack was purple. His abilities changed multiple times, but one thing always stayed the same: he was always a wanderer, helping others and existing in a permanent state of calm, almost meditative serenity. Oh, and some features like his hairstyle, glasses, and the four-leaf clover in his hair remained consistent in every version.

And one more thing. I’m much better at drawing Basil’s nose now...😭
I adore Hawkins, without a doubt. But that nose was my struggle

Once Jack consumed a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that granted him the ability to absorb and process negative emotions - sadness, anger, anxiety, disappointment, etc. After a short time spent near him, people feel mild calmness. However, with each new encounter, the effect grows stronger, and their emotional wounds begin to heal.
Jack always wants to do more and alleviate others’ pain as quickly as possible, but his body has its limits. Absorbing others’ pain takes a toll on him physically, draining his energy and leading to his frail. If he tried to take on all of someone’s pain at once, it would destroy him. Because of this, his ability works gradually, providing therapeutic relief over time and through repeated interactions.
His abilities are always active, making Jack incredibly calm and composed. He remains unshaken even in the most challenging situations, drawing in people searching for refuge from their inner storms. While Jack naturally gravitates toward those in need, he never speaks about his powers. The people he helps often don’t realize their newfound emotional peace isn’t mere coincidence but a direct result of his influence.
He might seem like a carefree fool at first glance, always joking and unable to take anything seriously. His lightheartedness, tendency to improvise, and perpetually cheerful demeanor make him appear like someone who lives entirely in the moment. However, beneath this exterior lies an innate kindness and a deep understanding of others’ emotions. Jack would never intentionally hurt anyone, not even by accident, and he avoided conflicts at all costs.
° • 🌾 • °
Jack is deeply convinced that his life only has meaning when he’s helping others. He sees himself as a tool for maintaining harmony rather than as a whole person. This sense of secondariness has become so natural to him that he often ignores his own needs, deeming them unimportant. His disregard for himself is evident in his scruffy appearance, his habit of sleeping outdoors, and his tendency to overwork.
Because of his Devil Fruit, Jack can’t feel anger or protest, even when others take advantage of him or treat him unfairly. Any negative emotions he might experience are instantly suppressed by his power, leaving him unable to defend himself or establish boundaries.
Despite his perpetual calm, Jack is aware of the unfairness of his situation. He believes such an ability would be better suited for someone who truly needed it. This belief fuels a sense of guilt he can not express but which drives him to relentlessly seek out and help others.
° • 🌾 • °
Jack never stays in one place for too long, always searching for those who need support. He performs various kinds of work, helping people both physically and emotionally.
In the places Jack visits, he earns a living as a handyman, often refusing payment for his services. For him, the only thing that matters is meeting as many people as possible and easing the lives of those who suffer.

Marie, with genuine enthusiasm, places a newspaper in front of Hawkins: "Captain, I’ve found something to keep me busy for the next couple of days while we’re resting on this island! A nanny job!"
Basil, slowly frowning, picks up the newspaper and starts reading: "It says here… a giant drake is looking for a nanny for the weekend to take care of his ducklings? Is this a joke?"
Marie: "What’s so strange about it? Ducks are parents too! And his ducklings are still so tiny."
Basil: "And why are you telling me this?"
Marie: "Because you’re going to help me. You can transform into a straw creature. You’d make a perfect nest..."
Basil: "Stop, no. Don’t even try to continue this thought."

° question
I absolutely love creating small artworks on characters' everyday/routine situations. But I come up with so many ideas that I'm not sure I'll be able to bring them all to life - especially since my inspiration constantly jumps from one idea to the next 🤧
So, I thought: why not share some of these concepts in a script format? These are the ones I might not have time to develop in detail, but I still really want to share. I might add a small sketch, but the main idea would be in text form 🤔
Maybe someday I'll come back to these and create something more detailed when inspiration strikes. What do you think?
