Lightweight

Although they had progressively changed with time, growing with him as he slowly turned from small and insecure leveret to full-fledged hare, his steps had always been familiar to him. Sometimes, he would detest them because they were weak; sometimes, he would thank them because they were fast. Regardless of the case, they were unmistakably his, and he knew all about them, for better or worse.

But he didn’t know whom those present steps belonged to. The weight of the life he had stubbornly chosen to lead that day of fifteen years ago, against all odds and his father’s wants, wasn’t burdening on him anymore. His legs, accustomed to move forward in spite of carrying it, were light now. So light he could hardly recognize them; so light it was almost unbearable.

“You’ll get a headache, if you keep frowning like that.” In some strange, perhaps a bit cruel, trick of events, the voice unmistakably coming from behind him sounded like it was reverberating right inside his head, as though his very conscience had just spoken.

In fact, Jack considered with a bitter smile – which, lucky for him, couldn’t be seen at the time – it wouldn’t have been so odd if the will of his heart was voiced by Cynthia Walker. “How can you possibly know that I’m frowning, if all you have access to from that position is my back?”

“Because, when you’re in a mood, every part of your body works together so that this fact is perfectly apparent to whoever gets to interact with you.” A feather-like touch reached him between his shoulder blades, one that made his guts silently twist in a sailor’s knot. “Here,” she tapped twice, “you’re stiff as a board. I highly doubt your face is any better.”

Rem, I'm sorry if I'm intruding you but can you explain me the procedure of how you create the arts for the comics. They are amazing. ♡♡♡♡ I have always been a fan of your arts.....

thanks for your kindness. I’ll show you my method of working, it’s not said is correct, but it’s the one I like.

1. Write the plot. 

Luckily, I collaborate with @aoimotion, who’s the writer, so I don’t personally take care of this phase. But if you have a story in mind it’s always better to write a basic plot that will then help you to develop the story. Try to always be very flexible, ideas can always change and it’s up to you to choose the best solution for your story.

2. Story boarding.

these are the roots of your work. once the script is ready, I generally develop the whole storyboard, to establish the layout and the flow of the story between the various pages. 

3. Drawing

The funniest part, in my opinion. Once you are convinced of your story board, you can move on to the drawing phase. Also in this case, I generally prefer to draw all the pages before moving on to the definition phase. If the layout of the storyboard seems nice, you can rely on it, if in the meantime you had a better idea you can always modify the layout during the drawing phase. 

generally during this phase I also establish the shape, position and size of the baloons.

4. Inking

Well, here there is not much to explain. inking is not a mere “tracing”, it’s art, and the more you train, the more your work will gain in quality. you should have a lot of patience, it’s a long and boring phase.

5. Color, definition. this is the last phase, in which those, I color and I add shadows, lights and details. It’s fun because it’s quite “mind free” and allows you to indulge yourself according to your ideas and your aesthetic taste. But it requires a lot of time. And always remember to establish a point from which the light comes and hits the characters, so you can  have a clear idea of where lights and shadows should be.

it’s a work that requires a lot of time and patience. If you like comics, try not to be discouraged by the poor results or the time you lose. We all fall into mistakes and think that the time spent studying or sperimenting is never waste and it will be useful in the future.I advise you to observe a lot of the professional artists, get inspired and try to imitate them until you come to a style that you like and feel yours. And then I suggest you to read some page layout guides (it will be useful to understand the correct order of the panels and the meaning of the shots according to the various perspectives).

Precious Memories

Many years ago (okay, maybe just two), this photo appeared in one of Black Jack’s pages. Then, it appeared again on the recent J, Episode 0.2 in a different context and with a definitely better look.

The story behind this picture is one I intend to tell you one way or another; we don’t have all the time in the world and sometimes it probably feels like we’ll never finish what we’ve started, but that’s absolutey not true. So please, wait for us. Don’t settle with imitations of our works, for we’ll definitely be here and won’t disappoint you. Cross our hearts.

Ed ecco l'episodio 0.1 di J servito anche in italiano! Rem mi ha avvisato del fatto che potrebbero mancare delle sillabe a qualche dialogo… ho ricontrollato tutte le tavole personalmente e non ho trovato alcuna mancanza, se qualcuno le notasse lo scriva qua sotto che sistemo. 😅

Non ho molto da dire su questo episodio, se non che sono contenta di aver potuto far interagire Cynthia, Stella e Zac tutti insieme senza preoccuparmi che qualche fan mi svangasse i… ci siamo capiti, e che non vedo l'ora di concludere J con la prossima parte per attaccare con il sequel vero e proprio. Ma la prossima cosa su cui lavoreremo sarà Operation Dinnertime, quindi ci sarà da aspettare.

This is the little comic we made as reward for our Patreon in April (yes… we’re late), which is an adaptation for the story that I wrote a couple of years ago, Promise.

One day, I hope that I’ll be able to show you something more about Cynthia’s past. I doubt we’ll ever have the time to make her story into a comic, but a little novel wouldn’t hurt. Who knows…

This is a – quite powerful – illustration that I asked Rem to do for a certain story I’m currently writing (it’s not finished yet). Its name, indeed, is White Sound.

This story should partially explain what happened between Jack and Cynthia in the past that caused their relationship to freeze. Partially, because it is our intention to deepen this fact in the original comic we’re planning to make after Black Jack’s finale.

Has Cynthia ever seen Jack without clothes? Like has she tried to spy on him to get to see him naked?

Since Jack is kind of a exhibitionist and has this habit of training the new recruits shirtless… yes, Cynthia has seen him half naked a lot of times without needing to spy on him. But she doesn’t like his scars too much…(According to Jack himself, the reason why he takes his shirt off during training is that he’s more comfortable that way. You know, the “I can move more freely” excuse. But I do believe he secretly wants to make a spectacle of himself…)

So, after Cycy (which you can find here), here’s another mammal who slowly and lazily proceeds to start his day – or end it, who knows. I may sound like I’m perfectly calm and collected as I say this, but truth is that Rem drew such an erotic Jack it still makes me shiver in… quite a positive way. His back in the second panel is so sexy I just can’t preserve my dignity – assuming there still is a dignity to preserve, that is. Oh, who cares. 🤷 Let’s celebrate 1.500 followers and… ENJOY THE FRESHNESS!
