This is my head canon too! :3

I like the idea that Thorin never actually disliked Bilbo during the first half of the quest, it just came off that way because Thorin had a very big crush on Bilbo and didn't know how to deal with it and so ended up being sort of mean to him very much "I wrote a note to my crush that said get out of my school" vibes

I love the hobbit fandom so much but please, my loves, my sweet baby pebbles, please… stop using really bad metal working analogies

Work hardened/annealed=

When you want to soften a metal to make it more pliable you heat it, this is called annealing. This is done when something you are working gets work hardened or develops tenseness that makes it fragile

So like.. if you’re writing some Bagginshield smut or fluff like you do (ha) you could say “Bilbo seemed to anneal under the heat of Thorins hands”

I thought of something really dumb

Everything in erebor is probably proportionately 1/4-1/5 larger then things in the shire and when bilbos cooking it’s hard for him to do a lot of stuff because the poor guy is already standing on a stool.

One night Bilbo yelps something angry and storms out of the kitchen and Thorin walks in to see a salad that has been flooded with oil because the bottle was too large for him to hold and it spilt.

After consoling his very sad hobbit and taking him to the night market to get a goat cheese salad and some chicken sewers to eat up on the ramparts and watch the stars. Thorin is looking at the gutter system to runs off the ramparts and jumps to his feet, kissing Bilbo on the head and then literally running through the kingdom to his smithy- and he makes an olive oil spout to screw onto the top of the bottle so there’s more controlled flow.

He presents it to Bilbo the next day.

Bilbo silently thinks he could have just gotten Thorin to funnel the oil into smaller bottles for him and still would have gotten to sleep with his husband last night but it is very nice, and it does work very well so he smiles and kisses Thorin and uses it for months before putting it onto a smaller bottle to continue using it.

Thorin a bit of autism I think, can’t see the forest because he’s hyper focused on one bush kinda vibes. I love that silly man.

Thorin carving wooden toys and Bilbo painting them and they give them out to all the children that migrate to Erebor with their families:

There isn’t actually as much to do as one would think. Winter settled in hard and fast and with heat restored and water running there wasn’t much that could be done by Bilbo or Thorin personally as much as it drove them both crazy.

One night by the fire Thorin eyes up a small chunk of fire wood, grabbing it and taking a leather roll from inside a drawer of his writing desk containing some knives and files. He starts to whittle away at the wood. Bilbo grimaces at the mess it’s making but suddenly all those shavings bring something to mind

After the last snow of the season has passed families will be arriving in Erebor. Many of whom had to leave most of their belongings behind and many of those families will have children who will be scared and exhausted and missing their old homes not yet understanding what a haven Erebor is.

“Say… how many of those do you think you could make in a day” Bilbo hummed thoughtful
