A birdflash Short story
Based off of the story line from 'Titans: Rebirth' Vol. 1
My name is Wally West and I'm the fastest man alive. I've been away for a while. My last fight made me get lost in a space outside of time. The speed force. I was so alone and afraid. But there was always something to bring me back. My lightning rod. I don't know if I'm ready to face them again. Or if they're ready to see me alive.
"Who are you?" An escrima stick was held to my head as I crouched on the floor of my old apartment, looking at a photo I always kept with me. There's one thing I forgot to mention. No one remembers me.
"Dick?" I stand and turn, face-to-face with the elusive Hero, Nightwing.
"How do you know that name?" His face contorts into a scowl. Ah, the infamous batglare. "I don't know who you are--" he flipped over the desk that separated us. "How did you get in here?"
"Dick! Please, stop! I'm not here to hurt--" my sentence was cut short by him going to tackle me but a jolt of electricity shooting back and shocking him. I stare at my fingertips in disbelief. okay, weird.
"Did you just tase me?" he grips his palm with a wince. "What the hell, Wally? What was--" He stops, eyes widening. "Wally?" He asked himself. He know me. He knows me! "I don't understand." He mutters as I rush to his side to help him up. "I know you. I know your name..." he continued to talk to himself under his breath. "...but I don't know how."
"I'll explain soon, I promise." I whisper in his ear once pulled in a hug. It was short lived once I pushed him away and resumed my hero posture. "But first... Where are the Titans?"
"Right here." A voice said, from neither me or Dick.
I turn to see my old team surrounding us, weapons all ready. I see Dick's eyes widen from behind the mask from the corner of my vision.
"AH. Hi, guys." Okay Wally. Work fast. They don't remember either. How'd I do that zappy thing.
"Man, did you pick the wrong apartment to bust into, pal." Roy quipped, aiming his quiver straight at me.
They came at me from all side, Roy first. His rock steady determination, though he wasn't expecting me to be fast enough to dodge his arrow.
Then Donna and her protective fury when anyone hurts the ones she loves. I easily evaded her punch.
Lilith and her vulnerable mind to find the Truth. "I sense the intruder has done something to Nightwing! His mental patterns have been altered." She announced. Oh boy.
"What have you done to him?" Garth threw an unwavering punch. How can I prove that I'm not an enemy? They need to remember.
"You guys need to stop!" Dick tried reaching for me but was held back by Donna.
"Who is he?" She scowled as I avoided another blow with my speed.
"It doesn't matter who you are--" Lilith yelled, reaching her powers out and I fall down in pain. "--you can't outrun your own thoughts!" I scream.
"S'okay. We got him!" uhm. Ow. The when-all-else-fails Harper Hook. But when his punch hit, the sparks fly again. The memory dam bursts. He falls to the floor on his knees, cradling his head.
"What are you doing to my friends?" Donna attacked from behind. More sparks. More memories.
"He put Donna into some kind of trance!" Lilith yelled. "Grab him, Garth, and--" She was cut off as they both grab my arms. Sparks fly.
"Wally..." Lilith pulled her hood down. "It's wally." Tears welled in her eyes.
"Wally?" Donna stood back up. "Wally?!"
"I don't understand..." Garth ran a hand through his hair.
Dick still had yet to say something. Staring.
"Dick--" I started. I never figured out what I was going to say.
"Four years." He said, standing from the position I left him in from before the fighting began. "Four years! That's how long It's been!" He lashed out in anger, tears slipping past his mask. The others watched in somber silence. "You..." He started breaking down. "You were alive all along?" His voice cracked.
"Not exactly." I sighed, walking to him. "I was trapped in the speed force. It took me a while but I figured it out." I took his hand. This wasn't exactly how I planned for this to happen but it's now or never. "I needed something strong to bring bring me back." His masked eyes locked with mine and I could almost imagine those wide blue iris underneath it. "My lightning rod."
The way his mask contorted his eyes seemed to grow wider. I leaned closer and paused, waiting for a reaction. Our lips just barley grazing. I could feel his breath hitch on my face. We're so close.
Before I got the chance to doubt myself he lunged forward and connected our lips, holding me close with his arms around my neck. I gripped his waist like a lifeline.
Roy whistled from the sidelines. "It's about time." It was all background noise to me. I was in complete bliss.
Finally, I'm home.

I don't really know what to say, I just wanted to honour the amount of love our little Collector must have to be able to abandon their entire family and befriend their hereditary enemy just because they didn't like the violence their predecessors inflicted on others
Compared to the atrocities he must've seen them do, his antics seem like harmless fun to him- hence why he could tell his family were hurting others, but he can't tell that he's hurting others, too

And my favorite way of consuming content of my favorite lil guy is the core 5 titans
There is also about 5 billion pieces of media where these 5 interact and some of it sucks so here I am scrapbooking canon together with glue and scissors so I can talk about how I view Dicks relationship with the other OG titans and how different these relationships are from one another while all still being boiled down to found family love
Dick & Donna: Listen. To. Me. These two aren't besties, or fav teammates or siblings. These two are the sun and earth revolving around each other except they each think the other one is the Sun. Dick Grayson and Donna Troy are the blueprint for platonic soulmates. Dick and Donna make everyone around them believe in ancient story by plato "humans once had 4 arms and legs and 2 faces and the God Zeus split them in half for their hubris and now they are destined to roam the earth forever looking for their other half". If y'all think Dick wasn't doing well after Jason died?? Donna Troys death fundamentally changed who Dick Grayson was and how he was written in teams for years. Donna Troy and Dick Grayson absolutely have debated getting platonically married (not canon but it is in my heart) and the only reason they haven't is BC if they do, Donna will kidnap Dick and never let him within 1000 feet of Bruce Wayne and Gotham.
Dick & Roy: remember how I said Dick was fucked up post Troias death in the comics? yeah? Roy Harper is the only reason he made it out of that period of his life alive. These two are like fire and Gasoline, they're quick and angry and always inexplicably near each other. They are VICIOUS with one another in a way they almost never are with anyone else. They try so hard to ruin their relationship bc implicitly they know (unless its the new 52 which I ignore for my own mental wellbeing-hey I did say this was a scrap book of canons) they'll always be there for each other. Roy Harper never misses, Dick Grayson cannot fall and yet Dick is there to hold Roy when his hand trembles and Roy is there to catch Dick when he loses his Grip.
Dick Grayson is the first person Roy calls to get Lian
Roy Harper is the designated keep Dick Grayson alive even if he has to tie the bastard up-

Dick & Wally: to cut back on the pretentious seriousness of this post. Every time these two are drawn together be it 80s road trips or being the most likeable part of tom Taylors run. Wally west always reads like he's about to invite Dick to swing with him and his wife. If you see them as platonic, romantic (right person wrong time is my favourite Fanon flavour but canonically I like em besties) or somewhere in between Wally West is always Dick Graysons best friend. There is something so wholesome about the fact that Wally canonically stalks checks up on Dick Grayson as much as he does his wife and twins and Dick who is a bat, notorious for expressing their love via breaking into your house and doing your casework for you. Is getting stalked checked up on by someone who loves him without it triggering his "see obviously you're not good enough they're literally babysitting you" paranoia. its like meeting your partners love language needs but its for deeply messed up individuals. They canonically call themselves best friends, and while Dick will always love Roy he always Likes being around Wally (as well as love him but that's a given)

Dick & Garth: The amount of trust, love and respect that tempest holds for Nightwing melts my damn heart (but then again everything garth does melts my damn heart, baby Garth you will always be famous) they are such an underrated pairing and I love the fact that no matter the media, whether they're rivals like in the cartoons or Garth deferring to Dick as leader to the point where he disobeys aquaman (rebirth) Bc yeah THATS how much my purple eyed perfect boy trusts wing. There is always this really sweet understanding that Garth can go to Dick for advice (he asks for Donna advice in titans and advice on his relationship with Dolphin in the comics). And him and Dicks reunion post RIC? I love them sm. Its just... There was also a period of time where Garth was the only titan with sense and tbh sometimes its refreshing to see that when the rest of them (except donna she was dead at the time we never say a bad word about donna in this household) are being fucking insane

Listen I love the ‘dicks being ostracized from his family and self destructs’ trope in fics however
I would like an inverse just once (I could write it but I want this fic to be good so I can enjoy it and I am not the greatest writer) where everyone blows up at him and flat out lays into him and he just goes… okay… if that’s how you feel?
Takes himself off of the patrol routes and rosters. He’s off the emergency calls and his ‘call for city wide emergency’ has been down graded to ‘call for world wide emergency’ he’s no longer on comms with oracle
He stops offering assistance to the other kids teams, doesn’t send info for investigation and doesn’t go within 100feet of Gotham.
Takes himself off the den-mother, baby sitter, trainer for all the younger teams lost that involve any and all bats
In the beginning he vacates his apartment and temporarily moves in with Donna in New York and things are good because of course they are. They’re Dick and Donna a world doesn’t exist where they aren’t okay.
And then his presence in New York leads to a lot of the og core five titans interacting and they realize that they miss each other like hell and start to work together more and more. Until news sites are like ‘teen titans grown up??’ ‘Original titans spotted doing hurricane aid in Florida!’
Because Dick loves his family but he knows when to bow out. And he chose the family he made in the new teen titans.
And then one day one of the bats track him down in nyc and breaks into what is now Dick and Donna’s apartment and are ready to argue that they need him back and need him there for a huge Gotham wide event.
And Dick says ‘sure okay let me get my stuff and we leave in half and hour’ as soon as the first sentence is out
No convincing or begging or asking for money (cough Jason cough)
Dick is patched into their comms and he’s working efficiently except he’s not… acting like himself.
He’s collaborating with whoever they tell him too, no problem, he’s discussing ideal plans and co-ops and teams and how to best get it under control.
But he’s talking to them the way he talks when he’s offering aid to teams he’s not a part of.
Like the hero version of an acquaintance and no one can call him out on it because he’s doing good work. Work that’s on par with his work before this whole fiasco. He explicitly isn’t letting their personal issues affect his work.
He’s speaking but not talking
And Bruce remembers this… he’s probably the only one who does because last time he was the only one included. The last time Dick acted like this is when he first visited Jason and him after he had been fired.
Whenever Bruce was in the room and Dick was forced to speak with him, the conversation never strayed past business casual especially around Jason.
Batman and Nightwing got into screaming matches
Bruce and Dick were strangers
And now they’re back to this, 7 kids later, a million ends of the world stopped, they’ve bled together, cried together and clung to each other in pure relief after they managed to clutch victory.
And Nightwing was treating Batman Inc like a new team stepping onto the scene.
Once they’ve secured everything and managed to keep Bruce from self destructing and making it worse. Dick just leaves and tells oracle that he’ll send over his debrief in 3-5 business days and it was nice working with them.
And then he’s gone
No cave, no manor, no Alfred, no med-bay because Dick doesn’t stay places he’s not welcome.
And after they all talk about that and how weird it was and Bruce reveals Dick did this before when he was Nightwing after Bruce fired, where Dick Grayson didn’t know Bruce Wayne.
And one of the kids asks when he broke and stopped the act and Bruce just says ‘the day he found out Jason died’
And the Batkids kinda freak bc what do you mean?? What is he only going to come back when someone dies? Thats not? There has to be another way?? And Bruce is like yeah no idea sorry (bc he’s helpful like that)
So then Steph the next day resolves to go visit him, Tim isn’t the only professional stalker. And she finds Dick and Donna’s apartment and well it’s daylight and she’s in civvies she’s if she climbs in through the window she might get reported to the NYPD and she doesn’t wanna get arrested or shot to door it is!
And so she goes and knocks and Dick opens the door and just lights up
Something something this is such a nice surprise something something it’s so good to see you.
Dick had taught Donna how to make some of his mother recipes when they were kids. So now whenever they’re together for a long time they cook together.
So Dick who is usually living in a cluttered apartment with no clean dishes and an exclusively grab and go food is now trying to force feed her some of his cooking.
Because he picked up the habit again since he’s the better cook between him and Donna.
And it’s delicious and he wants to catch up and hear everything that’s going on in her life, is she working with new people, dating anyone? How is her relationship with her mother etc etc.
It’s a nice day and she stays late and never confronts him on anything until she sees how long ago the sun set and she needs to get moving.
He hands her paper with his number and makes her promise not to give it to the others or she will lose access to it, he offers to help her on a conditional basis as nightwing but only her, she can call him about the rest if it’s an end of the world or they’re near death and need immediate aid.
And that’s like the fic because the key to winning nightwings assistance is like breathing (optional) but if you’re Dicks family you have to care or else. He’ll love you and help you, when you need it but he won’t tie his life up with yours, he’ll spend his time with people who value his opinion and the person behind the mask.
Anyway cue all the Batkids trying to do what Steph did and fail because they’re neurotic shits who think bonding involves doing casework together or a steak out.
(The next person to crack it is Damian, completely unintentionally he has a fight with Bruce and can’t ask him how the fuck he’s supposed to solve this equation in the new stupid way they’re teaching him no he can’t use the old method they’re supposed to show their work so he pulls up to Dick and Donna’s in a ratty ass hoodie like plz wtf do you mean you work top down explain Grayson- and dicks like awww no problem kid)

Everyone knows who Phantom is. He was one of the very first heroes though he inexplicably chose to dedicate his life (metaphorically) to micromanaging the hell out of some random town no one has ever heard of. He's a specialist hero, only really useful for ghost stuff. He comes every time someone contacts him for help but it's only happened a few times in all of his years of operation.
Then, kid heroes become a thing. Robin, once perpetually hidden beneath the shadow of the bat emerges into the metropolis sun just in time to make the front page.
When Batman's child-raising skills are called into question, Kid Flash is brought out at a press release by Flash to show that these exceptional children are around. They just aren't common knowledge for their own health (aside from the villains - being a child star wrecks your brain).
A few villains do come forward and say "no, the sidekicks will go out on their own if their hero doesn't let them. And they have all the powers and none of the restraint. Please don't separate them."
(Batman and Robin are both very flattered that all their rogues think they have powers. Robin is ✨glowing✨ with pride.)

How to properly tag shit because so many tags are borderline unusable in this fandom.
- if you are in the Roy Harper tag, and any Jason Todd other than Robin!Jason is mentioned, you should tag RHATO.
- if you are in the Wally West tag, and Dick Grayson is in your post, you should tag titans or yjanimated.
- if you are in the arrowfam tag, there shouldn't be bats in your post. if you are in the wonderfam tag, there shouldn't be bats in your post. if you are in the green lantern tags, there shouldn't be bats in your post. if there are bats in your post, then tag it as titans/justice league/whatever based on the bat in your post. make it possible to filter out unwanted characters.
- if a character is not mentioned, don't put your unrelated posts in their tag. i cannot understand why the lian harper tag is the way that it is, and i sure would like for it to not be that way.
Blacklists only work if we tag things properly. I can barely scroll through the Roy Harper tag despite having RHATO, red hood and the outlaws, and jayroy all black listed because of improperly tagged stuff. I know we all want our posts to be seen, but the fandom is a healthier, less toxic place when we help each other out. People can't filter for things they enjoy if we overrun their tags with unrelated stuff, and then that just ends in arguments.

I’ve been thinking about this fanart concept for almost 2 years now, AND IM STILL NOT HAPPY! I might re-draw it QwQ The concept was raven looking at her reflection (which is another her from the first animated Teen Titans). But robin’s refection will be 2 different robins (dick and dami). RobRae was my first ship,since I was 7.. and Its hard for me to let go and move on.. BUT I fell inlove with damian this time and realized dick deserves babs xD so what do you think guys? aaa please follow me for more robrae fanart!!!
With Donna Troy gone who knows where. I was worried I wouldn't get a new badass female to ship Kory with. Thank gosh for Jinx this season. Kory really does have chemistry with everyone Donna,Dick, Hank,Dawn,Jinx, Barbara, that therapist dude in season 2.

DC’s reasoning for breaking up Dick and Kory is painfully ironic if you stop to think about it. Obviously a big part of Dick is that he desperately wanted to get out of Bruce’s shadow and become his own hero. Basically what happened is they realized they did too good of a job of bringing Dick Grayson out of Batman’s shadow that people were associating him with the titans more than they did with Batman and the Batman writers hated it. So they broke them up and put Dick with Batgirl. This is crazy considering a huge part of Dick’s character is getting out of Batman’s shadow.
They were super popular too. The only comic couple outselling them was Peter and MJ.
