My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.
Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.

Iâve wanted to do a mini ballet inspired Princess Tutu fanart series, but this got put on hiatus when my dad got sick last year. Iâm now finally getting around to it, and first up is none other than âRomeo and Julietâ, or to use its Italian title (the play does take place in Verona, Italy), âRomeo e Giuliettaâ.
The background silhouette is inspired by the art of Junichi Nakamura, who in turn inspired the use of silhouettes in shoujo anime such as Utena. The scene depicted in the background is the famous balcony scene, while the foreground is one familiar to PT fans: The Last Farewell. I tried to make the mood reminiscent of the lovers sharing one last late night pas de deux before they must part ways. Hopefully I managed to capture the angst in that scene đ¤§
EDIT: added a close up cus I realized their faces are really small in the full size image and itâs hard to see the angst unless you zoom in đ
@atomic-rattz DTIYS Donnie!
I also really like this more simple version
Latino street art should be considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the same level of mongolian throat singing.
Years later, when Ivypool herself is only a memory and before sheâs completely lost to time, sheâll look over ThunderClan, wherever they might be, and still look for her daughter in every face.
The stories have it wrong already, and the truth will be dust before long. Bristlefrost isnât alive in their memories. Sheâs twice-dead, drowned in black, choking water, a light snuffed out too soon. Bristlefrost was the prodigy â the daughter cats dreamed of, the first to find her voice and her paws, the leader of her siblings, the apprentice who did not graduate even earlier than she did because there was no prey in the forest to be found, not because of any failings on her part.
Cats starved, that long winter. Not Bristlefrost. Never her daughter, her clever, resourceful last-born. And she had once occupied this spot, designated for deputies, even though sheâd never had an apprentice of her own. Would never have an apprentice of her own, now, even though she deserved it more than anything. Even though sheâd deserved to stay deputy, but had given the role over with a smile, no hint of dark ambition in her gaze.
Ivypool steps into the deputy position under a brand-new leader with a whisper instead of a bang, the pounding of blood in her ears the only reminder that cats had been here before â that cats had died here before, and that Bramblestarâs first deputy becoming leader was a fluke, an odd quirk of fate. It hasnât been done in living memory, nor long before that. Leaders do not usually step down, and when they do, they rarely stay with their Clan, or even within reach of their territory. First deputies do not often become leaders in turn. Usually this event is a bittersweet one, with a body or bodies laid out in the clearing, their eyes closed swiftly to avoid the rigor of after-death, but this is almost-peaceful, with only the murmurs of those who could not easily accept change as detractors.
Ivypool will die long before Squirrelstar. Sheâsâsurprisingly okay with this, but she thinks sheâs been at peace with her death since before Hollyleaf had stepped between her and a deathblow from one of the only friends sheâd ever had.
(âYou were my friend!â Ivypool screams in her worst nightmares, Hollyleafâs blood dripping from her pelt.
âI was never anyoneâs friend,â Hawkfrost murmurs in return, something aching-sad in his voice, Hollyleafâs lifeless form pinned under his claws. âI was born to what I am. Weâre the same, you and I.â He pushes the black cat away from his paws with disgust â not for the body, but for Ivypool herself. Blood bubbles from the horrible wound at the corpseâs throat. âShe should have been the one,â he says sometimes, in the ones that shatter her already pieced-together heart. âShe died in your place.â
âI know,â Ivypool says, and she does know â she knows it more than anyone else alive.)
âIt should have been Hollyleaf,â she says to Squirrelstar, quietly, at the end of one of their dusk meetings.
Sorrow flashes in Squirrelstarâs gaze, but itâs buried as soon as it comes. âItâs you,â she says. âIt has always been you.â
It is not a truth â not in the way Ivypool remembers them from her childhood â but it is not a lie, either. Hollyleaf chose her, in the way dying deputies might choose their successor. She is always an echo of another cat burned by starlight. It is a comfort, sometimes. In others, she begs the spirit whoâd saved her life for mercy, for clemency, until she runs out of breath.
(âIâll find her,â whispers a voice Ivypool had almost forgotten, in dreams she forgets as soon as she wakes. âIâll walk the skies ceaselessly, I promise you.â
But there is no bringing Bristlefrost back, and a part of Ivypool has died with her.)
When Ivypool wakes, her Clanmates breathe around her, steadying her rabbit-quick heart. Fernsongâs tail wraps snugly around her flank, Thriftear curled only one nest behind, and she does not lose her breath at the way Flipclawâs dark tabby stripes curl over his spine. She hasnât in a long time, she knows, but the impulse is there, sharp as ice underneath her ribs.
(Sheâd once thought his brown tabby pelt a punishment from the stars. She loves her son, would give her life for him, but the feeling that StarClan may have meted some punishment down in the shade of his pelt remains long after heâs received his warrior name.
Sheâd begged Bramblestar to give him a suffix that was as unassumingly kind and silly as her son always was. Instead heâd given him -claw, as if to remind her of her failings. She is not sorry to see his form slip into the eldersâ den, bereft of the nine lives heâd once so jealously hoarded.)
Iâm officially speedrunning right now ahsdgfhsadf
My thoughts on
The Midnight Club (2022)
I just finished watching The Midnight Club last night and couldn't help feel how it was like a beautiful work of art left unfinished. When I started the show, I was really impressed by the way the foundation was laid but several things were left unexplained but we'll get there later.
First off, let's talk about the true essence of the show; the stories. While I absolutely loved the way the characters expressed their unconscious/concious desires through the stories knowing that they wouldn't come true, that the future they paint will continue to remain trapped behind words, I couldn't help but feel that we could've been introduced to this world in a better way.
By the time we learn about Natsuki's story regarding the Japanese myth, it's already progressed into a "frenzy of jump scares" which completely ruined the atmosphere for me and I found myself wanting it to be over as soon as possible.
The next thing I wish to address is Ilonka's character. She is a complex teen who is unable to accept the terminal nature of her life and that she cannot be saved. Initially, I liked her drive to survive but as the episodes carry on, we see her completely lose herself in the desperate attempt to grasp what's left of her life. Her character itself had multiple flaws which were further enhanced by the fact that so many things about her were left unexplained.
Why was Ilonka having visions?
Was it because of her medication? Maybe. But it could also, be due to her being most open to the spiritual aspect of the place. She openly sought to achieve wellness through the nature and was engrossed by the past which might've manifested in the form of visions. Maybe her sharing these thoughts with Kevin was the reason for his own visions.
Another aspect of the show I really wanted to see were the stories coming together in the end (as we had in the haunting series) but was really underwhelmed. There were too many plot holes which raised a lot of questions.
Who is Dr. Georgina Stanton?
In the final episode, her ties to the Paragon are hinted at. I personally found myself drawing ties between her and Regina Ballard (Aceso). Regina, upon performing the ritual had lost her hair which kinda made me think if Stanton had also tried to do the same for her son (resulting in the loss of her hair, being the only survivor).
Who are the old ghosts?
This really got me scratching my head finding answers. Maybe they're yet again manifestations of the negative emotions arising in the kids but I'm not sure. Also, how is Kevin connected to the old woman and why does Ilonka keep seeing her where Kevin is?
All these are left unanswered which really irks the viewers to know more.
(I have not read the books and all my interpretations are solely based on the show)
HotD episode 7 was frightening in its approach. It resonated a single message loud and clear... fire will reign.
The entire episode carried the strength of fire is such a subtle manner that it left me stunned and at a loss of words. Each conflict was illuminated and outlines by bright, raging flames.
The first time we see the symbolism of separation by fire is during the conversation between Viserys and Daemon.
We see it again, when Raenys calls Corlys out for desiring the throne for himself, ending his delusion of righteousness.
We see it behind Alicent and Rhaenyra when Allicent loses control and goes feral as the dam of her patience breaks.
We even see it behind Laenor's 'death' and his end in flames itself.
Another aspect which consumed me was the blood and the comparisons drawn by it.
While on one hand we see Rhaenyra bleeding alone, without Laenor by her side.
We see Rhaenyra and Daemon bleed together as he binds himself to her by marriage.
We also get a beautiful parallel of Daemon and Rhaenyra walking on the same beach where Laenor and Rhaenyra once started their relationship. A new start and perhaps a better one.
In the end, only one thing stands true:
Fire is a prison. The Targaryens are made of fire, meant to burn together.
I have not read the books and all my interpretations are based solely on the show.
HotD episode 6 was astonishing, I had been unsure of the flow now that the first segment was over but I have been left completely satiated.
My mind was raging by the end of the episode and I couldn't help but awe at the subte portrayals the show holds mastery over.
Once again, the main theme of how a dragon can never be subdued is reflected so calmly yet powerfully.
The true power of House Targaryen over House Valerion.
We first see this in the conversation between Daemon and Leana at the table with the other lords. Laena's wish to decline the offer is ever so silently disregarded. The frame where Daemon's hand rests on top of Laena's, wearing a ring which symbolizes royalty.
We see this yet again, when Rhaenyra has been holding back her anger (even having tears in her eyes) and finally unleashes on Laenor and commands him to remain at her side.
The episode also reflected certain cruel ironies...
Alicent's children only wearing green, symbolizing their mother's banner of war still stands proud while Rhaenyra's children wear blue... the color of Ser Harwin's eyes.
Ser Harwin's created life due to his affliction with a dragon (targaryen), yet rather than being protected by it, he was killed by fire. (I really loved seeing him as a father and I wish we could've gotten more scenes of him with the boys).
Alicent trying to bring back Otto Hightower as the hand only gave light to one cruel fact...Even partiality is fair when it's in favor of our own.
Laena's death was by no means less than that of a dragon rider. While the battle she fought was different, I'm glad Vhagar honored her command. (Her death really brought me to tears) Nevertheless, I'm glad that Daemon refused to make a choice on her behalf. Atleast in that sense, he is better than his brother.
I have not read the books and all my interpretations are based solely on the show.
