Your gateway to endless inspiration

A group of kids on their very last night together (because they were about to move and the neighbourhood about to be torn down to create a freeway) happened to find a crashed alien, and went on an overnight adventure to get him home. If it sounds like a mixture of E.T. and The Goonies, that's because it completely is, but Earth To Echo managed to stand its ground instead of simply being an inferior mimic.
The plot itself wasn't revolutionary--and frankly wasn't that different from E.T.--but what elevated this movie was how genuine the friendship was. The kids, all played by "unknown" child actors (Teo Halm, Brian Bradley, Reese Hartwig, Ella Wahlesstedt), were very natural and felt like real friends. They also acted exactly as kids and not act how sometimes Hollywood thinks children act like. That was the appeal of The Goonies, and that was the appeal of Earth To Echo. A lot of the performances in Earth To Echo were actually improv, so that helped a lot in making sure the scenes play as naturally as possible.
Earth To Echo moved at fairly fast pace and that helps a lot, but the film also packed a lot of genuine emotions. Each of the kids had their own backstory that shaped who they were, and the looming dread of future separation felt real enough and added a layer of poignancy to the story. While the film clearly had connections to 1980s through its spiritual predecessor, Earth To Echo felt very now and didn't try invoke 80′s nostalgia (that could be overbearing in some movies); it had cellphones, GPS, and Google Maps, and a cute little alien with Minority Report-esque aesthetic. Actually, Earth To Echo reminded me of Chronicle more than anything (probably because I’m not a generation of E.T. and The Goonies), and here might be my obligatory mention that Earth To Echo was shot in found-footage style--but for me it wasn’t annoying or overly shakey and it actually had some neat trick regarding Echo's vision.
TL;DR Once you get past the obvious (and lazy) comparison, Earth To Echo is a sweet little movie about kids and friendship--with surprisingly good acting and genuine emotions.
that last fight giveth me ✨life✨

Echo: WHY. why did you give Crosshair a KNIFE?! Hunter: I’m sorry. They said they felt unsafe. Echo: Now I feel unsafe! Hunter: I’m sorry. Hunter: ... would you like a knife?
Tbb is a divorce between Crosshair and Hunter and Hunter gets the children (We all know what Tech and Wrecker act like) and the house and Echo helps him get his life back together. He goes on a path to raise his daughter and ensure everyone else doesn't die while finding his self-fulfillment. In the end, he emerges a better and more mature person. Crosshair gets the money.
Living in a world that’s abandoned you,
You sit in the shadows,
They say, “You’re anti-social.”
I tell you, “They don’t understand you!”
They say, “You’ll get over it.”
But it’s really something you just can’t,
They’ll tell you that they know what you’ve been through,
But they will NEVER know your pain!
You’re in the abyss where nobody can reach you,
But I tell you, “I’m right there with you.”
“I was there before.”
Some can & have escaped this void,
You say, “You’re one of those who were lucky.”
“But most aren’t so lucky.”
You say, “I’m one of those who weren’t so lucky.”
“I got the short end of the stick.”
You try to wear a mask of normality to hide,
But the sorrow,
The humiliation,
The misery was seeping out the edges,
You’re painted smile would fade the more you’d wear it,
The doctor may say, “You have the option to…”
Or “These options are…”
But you don’t!
This feeling wasn’t your choice,
The world forced it on you,
They shoved it down your throat with all their hate & lies,
They did this to you,
You didn’t do this to yourself,
Those who think they know will say, “It’ll be over soon!”
That may be true for some of them,
But not for all,
Not for YOU,
I say, “There are those who’re in the pit with you too.”
The only one who may know is you!
After all,
How could your own mind not know?
How could you not trust yourself?
They may not have sunk in further,
Or they could be far deeper then you,
But they may truly know your pain and sorrows,
Just because you think you’re alone doesn’t mean it has to be like that,
Your mask won’t hide you from someone who’s been there too!
You said to me years ago, “I trust you!”
So?
Won’t you give me the key?
To the shattered heart and withered soul you locked away,
We can fix it,
You’ll mend it,
Don’t you see?
But there’s one thing you must NEVER in your life forget,
Life will always,
Always get worse before it gets better!
And you can’t be selfish!
You can’t take the easy way out and think there won’t be consequences,
It WILL affect those around you,
You shouldn’t force your pain on them just to make yourself feel better,
I was always there for you when I saw the bruises and bandages,
Your freedom & eternal happiness isn’t worth someone else feel the way you do,
But you can’t always think the risky or easy way won’t backfire at some point,
You’re so much better then that!
So?
Don’t let it control the way your life is lived,
You must take control of it!
Don’t lose hope in yourself or the world,
You only get one life,
Not the nine a cat has!
So don’t be foolish & live your life!
I was able to climb out of the pit,
I know you can too.
Hold onto hope!
Free wings glide through somber wood,
Gray sailing blurs whisk away loose leaves,
Red and Orange fuming with a burning love for the swift, twisting winds,
Soft aqua flows like a spring river,
Warm yet bitter gray darts between raised roots,
Gentle gaze surveys Three - Six - Four new lives under soft shells,
Soft Ambrosia flickering draws curious eyes,
The elder ran tender talons across the fragile eggs,
“A Heart of Forra, Ambrosia -
Master of SpellCraft, Caslia -
Guardian of Souls, Wisp -
Wind dancer, Sorlon -
Queen of Waves, Avelle -
A new age Artist, Vex” Her voice echoed.
“Lyvern, Daisy, Jasmin & Savana -
Watchers of Natural Life” Cood a voice as smooth as an evening breeze.
“Velnix, Azollen & Tyselle -
Riders of Sky & Flame!” Boomed a voice like a raging blaze.
Only a few moons till they explore their new world,
New hope for an expanding race,
Thought to be long extinct,
A rising Shadow!
White as far as the eye could see,
Cold scales & unheard cries,
A world with nothing yet never alone,
Sorrow & joy,
Silent consoling,
A deep understanding only one’s self known,
2 as 1,
An almost endless void with almost no life,
The living - the forgotten - the unknown,
Gray wings slide into her lap,
An elder of ancient wars,
One who can share the pain & sorrows,
Soft words of understanding,
“You’re not really alone!” & You’ll never be truly alone!” are softly purred,
Waiting in the white,
An empty world - yet Never alone.
Gray wings sweep the clouds,
One of Ever-burning Blaze,
One of Traditional Waves,
One of Neutral Grace,
An Elder of the Ancient Past,
Coal - Amber - Silver,
A Huntress of raging Embers,
A guardian of the Sky & Waves,
Riding the Tail-Winds all Day long,
A Neutral mind of long past wars,
A Companion - A Ruler - A Veteran,
The Old - The Fighter - The Young,
Those as important as the past - the present - the Future,
Inter-twining Fates,
Long awaited reunions to come,
Wings sweep wisps of clouds,
Wings to ride the vast waves,
Wings to scorch the land,
Eyes to see what’s to come.
“Indie. It looks like the scattered remains of a Jigsaw Puzzle!” She growled. “And it’s a 2 hour walk to the City from here.”
“Echo, it’ll be fine once we fix it up. And 3 miles isn’t that far. I’d only be an hour or less on my bike.” Indie shot back. ”Plus, look at the view! Vast meadows in front of us & the ocean behind us.”
Echo shook her head as she hopped up onto the porch railing. She didn’t want to put in the time on a huge wreck like this. There didn’t seem to be a point. But still knew Indie would find a way to drag her into fixing it up no matter what she said to protest.
The old ranch house had as many holes as swiss cheese. As well as it smelled like rotting fish & wet dog. It must have been two hundred years since anyone had stepped foot in the broken home. Indie walks up to the porch steps & Echo hops onto her shoulder then to the floor. Boards creak as the pair stepped carefully across half-missing, dead planks. The splintered door swung loosely in the wind.
