geckos AU : Sephiroth + Genesis + Angeal (I said I would do it, didn't I?)
got sick with the flu last week so I designed AGS as side characters for Rhaco: Geckos of New Caledonia.
Introducing the Dead (Bird) Poets' Club!
Genos (Satanic Leaf-tailed gecko) is the club's self-declared leader, as he is also its founder. He's a theater kid and came up with the idea of carrying around bird wings strung up like costumes to perform roles from his favorite plays (mostly Leafless).
Seflop (Giant Leaf-tailed gecko) is the club's de facto leader on account of his actual bird-killing track record. At first this was accidental, but now he has a problem and they can’t make him stop... what's his deal with property damage all of a sudden? The hair is a cape of egret feathers. They're not natural... we think.
Anjil (Frilled Leaf-tailed gecko) was roped into his best friends' club and now acts as damage control, carrying the overflow wings from their bird-killing sprees. He is on good terms with Zekk and routinely apologizes for the club's antics. He also doesn't just leave.
I only had time for AGS right now, but as for Cloud and Zack-- they run a joint tailoring shop in the gecko village (feathers, leaves, & fur fashion). Clao does mainly feathers, so he's a constant victim of his wares being raided by the AGS club.

A children’s edufantasy starring three young geckos learning their place within their community, the ecosystem New Caledonia— and protecting musical ghosts from a mysterious threat through lessons in Song magic!
The main characters are Ves the crested gecko, his best friend Bram the chahoua, and his little half-brother Srax (also crested gecko). In this first installment, we learn about the musical ghost shepherds.
I now have an exact stock for how many double-sided Soriku prints will be available for sale in late May!
There will be 14 prints for sale total. There are perfectly seven of each variant:
2-layer (red label) will be sold for $17
3-layer (teal label) will be sold for $16
The distinction between 2-layer and 3-layer is barely noticeable. The values on Sora and Riku just differ slightly.

approx 10 editions are also printed with an extra layer of green on the front, which functionally adds black to Sora and Riku

After making a 10 minute ethnographic documentary on the “cropped mgs meme” for an anthropology course I kinda fell in love with them and wanted to make Kingdom Hearts versions

Speaking of @foreststarflaime and dragons, I made this pixel art of their character Foreststar while we were at the library together. (I make pixel art sometimes) They can tell you all about her if they wish, and correct any of my errors-- my cursory recollection is that she's like a storybook god-dragon who is the patron of protagonism, and reincarnates as many different people and creatures to pursue the depths of kindness, wisdom and wonder.
Where every star on her wing represents a different story, it fuels her breath of blue fire with the intensity and brilliance of a life lived nobly.

Anyways some design notes
He's the same (or adjacent) species as Dean Hardscrabble from Monsters University-- though not a centipede taur for Reasons
(SquareEnix probably prefers consistent proportions across world specific models to make rigging easier, and therefore would not design him Like That)
His wings and elytra are at his waist since from my observation, they like to put things at waist length in Riku's designs. When folded flat against the thigh it looks like pockets.
He would use the lower wings mainly for gliding, to generate extra lift (given the length of his tail)
I'm debating moving the position of the Spirit sigil to his back, between his wings-- 1) that is consistent with its placement in DDD, plus 2) his wings would also contextualize it like a Nightmare

Sora's monstropolis model is a bit uncanny proportionally speaking, but he's still cute if you squint past the weird textures and boggly eyes

A sleepless Elsa sings a power ballad alone in her room after her bedside portrait reminds her of the family "she" broke. Seems Sir Jorgenbjorgen is not just an excellent listener, but substitute dance partner as well.
I abhor the first page layout but, sorry, I can't be bothered to stare at it any longer.

@thatmaxcontent who made their own really cool version of the Sora lookalikes post emboldened me to share these designs of Vanitas and Xion that I left out ^-^
Vanitas' hair has a tiny bit of jagged swirl in it, partly to match Ventus (coming from his heart and all) but also because the heartless and unversed have those antennae things. He lowkey looks like an extra who escaped from a MCR music video tho
And Xion! I wrote their name pronunciation for non-KH mutuals. Truthfully the tooth gap for them was a happy accident that I kept because I liked it. it's an imaginary tooth
Am I the only one who as a child erroneously assumed Axel from Kingdom Hearts was a werewolf and was supposed to turn into Red XIII/Nanaki from Final Fantasy or is that just me

Roxas is Sora’s edgy doppelgänger but also looks exactly like Ventus, a completely different person who is like. Bluetooth connected to Sora’s heart /j
I headcanon Roxas has frosted tips while Ventus is pure blond, and Roxas inherited Sora's imperfect teeth but has a shyer smile
