Your gateway to endless inspiration
These are my personal headcanons for the names of the protagonists and some of the rivals of the Pokémon games.
Kanto:
Red Akiyama
Blue Oak/Green Oak (canon)
Leaf Aoki
Johto:
Ethan Hibiki
Lyra Koto
Kristine "Kris" Mariner
Silver Rosso
Hoenn:
May Hayashi
Brendan Birch (I HC him as the rival character, meaning he's the professor's kid.)
Wally Tsuru
Sinnoh:
Dawn Yugata
Lucas Kagayaki
Barry Palmer (I HC that his dad Palmer goes by his last name.)
Unova:
Hilda and Hilbert Grayson
Cheren Kuroki-Petrov
Bianca Caro
Rosalind (Rosa) Whittaker
Nathanial "Nate" Blake
Kalos
Serena Fontaine
Calem Belmont
Alola
Elio Taiyo
Selene Yoru
Notes (mostly based on headcanons):
I HC Hilda and Hilbert to be twins, so they have the same surname.
Cheren is part Sinnohan (so the Pokemon world's equivalent of part-Japanese) and part "whatever the Pokemon equivalent of Bulgarian is."
Ethan and Lyra's surnames in my headcanons come from their canon names in Japanese (Hibiki and Kotone.)
Elio and Selene are originally from the Kanto region before moving to Alola. Their surnames mean "sun" and "night" respectively.
Nate's surname comes from the English name of his manga counterpart.
Here’s some info about them:
•(name TBD), she/her, 17, lesbian, Rwandan-Brazilian roots, loves nature and tea, cottagecore, environmentalist, crystals, kind, painter, plays guitar, sings, gentle, motherly to her friends, loves good food, loves to dance but in a gothic/spiritual kind of way, pagan-ish (kinda new to the religion), plant-witch, cat lover, likes hippie style clothing and makeup.
•(name TBD), he/him, mid 20s-30s, straight(?), some sort of hispanic roots (TBD), tired all the time, hates his job, coffee addict, single but doesn’t want to be, lonely, has a passion for art but had to give it up, cannot for the life of him take care of himself properly, can cook well if he actually puts in effort.
Context: A group of prodigy, queer, neurodivergent teenagers from the American south decide to break into the capital one day because they’re bored. They hire an agent (?) who hates his job to be their “guy on the inside”. He ends up bonding with them and it’s a whole found family-thing.
These two are main characters. The first girl is a member of the group of teenagers. The guy is the agent they ‘hire’.
I plan on making this film a reality in my future.
I want their names to be culturally accurate and not stereotypes.
P.S. I’m Chilean if that helps at all idk-
Reverie - Rev Valeria - Val, V Howl Alice Harley - Harles, Harl Jamie - Jam Lupine - Lou
(He/Him)
i love them all ;; *BOLD/RED* = most used/favorite
Since you guys like my male name list, here are some vintage girl’s names from old historic documents, recently updated:
(Sorry I listed the name origin/individual’s place of birth on some and not others.)
Unique vintage male names, companion to this post:
There are less of them because people seemed to be less creative with naming their sons. Not sure why.
Do you know if Sherlock was ever actually used as a name? Or did Arthur Conan Doyle make it up?
Yes! It was an actual name of Middle English origin, sometimes a nickname for a blond person. Shir meaning bright or fair (possibly related to the root word for shine? idk) and lock meaning hair. It was more commonly a surname before the Sherlock Holmes books came out but it was occasionally a first name. An adjacent name is Whitlock, meaning white haired (or blond) which is a pretty common surname too.
here are some interesting surnames I have seen on old graves:
*they’re not inherently “weird” or “rare”, they’re just names I noted for possible future use in my writing
Hi so I’m posting with the intent of getting help. I created two characters from NK(North Korea) and SK(South Korea) respectively. However I’m having issues choosing names for them. They’re both boys. Please comment or reblog with names.

most of y'all probably already know about this website, but if you're a writer and you're looking for names for your characters (especially ones that fit a particular theme) might i recommend magic baby names?
you can enter one (or multiple) names and it'll automatically generate names that are thematically similar to the one(s) you gave them, which can be SO HELPFUL when you're looking for inspiration
hell yeah, a fellow name collector :3
Mhm! The only reason I took a single name is because of society🙄 but there's so many others! I love names, Im like a faerie I gotta have names

I’ve never met a normal person named John, which is weird because John seems like the most normal person name ever.
I feel like I need a little nickname for you people to call me. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Maybe Milo, Bailey, Table, Cable idk I just feel like I need a name that isn't not0an0alien
Velivera--sounds like you'd put it in a soap, but still mellifluous.
Jennifer--the name of half the women of my mother's generation; sounds less epic than it might once have because it's used too frequently.
Guanhamara--pretty, if a little difficult; reminds me of the character from Chronicles of the Red King.
Gwenhwyfar--the Welsh option, one of the classics.
Vanora--sounds like a pretty normal fantasy name; does not sound like Guinevere.
Ginevra--also sounds fairly normal; a little more recognizable.
Guendoloena--and her less assuming relative Gwendolen; this is also Merlin's wife's name (Geoffrey of Monmouth thought it was a good wife name, apparently).
Gaynour--I like the sound, but it would be mocked mercilessly in a modern middle school.
Guilalmier--I like it. Not as classic, maybe, but charming enough.
Wenneuereia--"Can you spell that one more time, please?" I had to check Wikipedia for the spelling of this one.
Ntzenebra--from The Old Knight, the only surviving Arthurian romance in Greek. Very cool.
G(ui/we)n(n)(i)ev(i)(e)r(e)--the closest thing we have to a standard formula of the name is this. You can add some letters or you can take away some letters, and the vibes will change, but it will still be the same in essence and pretty recognizable, unlike...
Winlogee--the coup de grâce. My feelings on this one are complicated, but I feel it can speak for itself.
do any of my beautiful mutuals know if kay is called cai wyn anywhere other than in culhwch and olwen? what does wyn mean?? is it a surname or an epithet or like a place of origin or something?
He needed help. And how could I help a cowboy? What was the best way to help him? I have no fucking idea.
"All apologies man! What else could I say?"
Is it weird to say that when he said this, I had the best eargasm ever. It's not because it's spring and in this season women are particularly "in heat", but the thing is that he looked hot as hell when he said this to my dad.
Now, to help the man that accidentally spilled his coffee drink on my texan dad's shirt, I said that he was a dear friend of mine and that he didn't do that on purpose.
My dad looked at me as if I killed his dog Roofus. Acting as if I was innocent, I look back at him and say "What's up? You're surely not mad just because of a mere shirt getting dirty, are you? Come on now dad! Can you go inside and get me a cappuccino please?" by now I was only rambling. But nonetheless my dad nodded at the man and went inside.
"Thanks for getting me out of the dirt, doll. He was pissed as hell, thought he was gon beat the fuck outta me and I would never see the light again." he said while chuckling.
"Nah, don't sweat it. You know texan men have anger issues." I laugh.
"Name's Blaze by the way. Nice to meet you." he gave me his hand and I shook it while saying: "I'm Brooklyn. Nice to meet ya too! Are you new to town? Haven't seen ya round here before"
"Yeahhh. Got here a week ago. Moved from Dallas. Wanted to change scenery and got to Austin. People 've told me that they have pretty cowgirls 'roun here, you know."
Oh you sneaky little shit.
guys we need new names for ticci toby. it's the name his bullies used to use and it low key is really tacky. 😭
drop suggestions in the notes please, I want really cool axe murderer names, like "The Hatchet's Weilder" or something. 🙏

my legal first and middle name are both on this list and THAT is why I am CHANGING THEM
I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know
I don't know if anyone will even see this but I'm currently writing a short story and need to pick a name for the main character. I've narrowed my choices down to two that work perfectly, so it'd be nice if y'all picked for me
two names for twins. Genre is fantasy. Starting with the same letter is better (lol that rhymed). Preferably, one is dark themed and other is light themed but anything will do.
Thanks 😁❤️
This question has come up a lot so I decided to make a post about it :)
Queerest names possible (in a good way), go.
So, Audrey and Aubrey... What dumbass parent switched up their d's and b's and created a new name??? More importantly which name came first! This is like the, "Which came first the ostrich or the egg?" but with names!!!
