Black Cat is NOT better than MJ - An Insomniac Rant

Listen, I'll definitely make a post about how crappy a love interest Insomniac's version of MJ is for Peter Parker (and when made, I'll link it in THIS post). But there ain't no way in dog drool I am EVER going to say that Black Cat is better love interest for him. If anything, a part of me would like to argue she's a bit worse.

"Oh, I only like her/ship them as a joke---" Congratulations, you can leave the post because I'm obviously not talking about you :)

Maybe I'm off my rocker, but what about this DC Catwoman copycat screams wifey-material to you guys? Felicia has manipulated, lied to, and used Peter for her own advantage time after time with seemingly no remorse. And even if she supposedly did for one millisecond, she sure as heck doesn't atone for it. And even when she apologized for tricking him into helping her, it sure sounded un-genuine.

Whether she truly had a son or not (though considering Felicia's history of being a pathological liar, I wouldn't put it past her), she used that narrative to trick Peter into a sense of false security, only to then trap him in a room after she got what she wanted.

And let's say that Felicia having a son WAS true. Guess what? THAT'S EVEN WORSE!

Because NOW instead of it just being a slimy scheme to get him vulnerable, she's lying to him by omission. Regardless of what her so-called intentions could be, she's still manipulating him which is an absolute no-bueno for ANY type of relationship (romantic or not).

You guys seriously need to stop glossing over how flawed these characters are just because you're attracted to them.

Y'all will complain up and down about how Peter's constantly broke but then want him to hook up with a chick that'd just steal his money without a blink? Make it make sense.

Once again, MJ is DEFINITELY not a good girlfriend for him either, but are we really going to pick a literal criminal as a love interest JUST because she's pretty?

“Oh, but Felicia has a similar lifestyle to Spider-Man!” Uh…no the freak she does NOT.

Spider-Man fights crime. Felicia COMMITS crimes.

Do they have chemistry? Yes, way more than an actual chemistry lab. But Felicia would absolutely NOT be a good long-term partner for Peter—he deserves way better than her.

At this point, if Peter having a love interest MUST (utterly MUST) be a prerequisite, I'd genuinely prefer he at least (at the freaking LEAST) get with Sable or Watanabe (before she became Wraith, that is—don’t even get me started on that mess) because at least those two try to have SOME (not good but some) sense of decent morality.

“Oh but look at her, she's bad–” You don't need to project the fact you're a masochist on everyone else.

If you're the kinda person who likes being manipulated and taken advantage of by people you find hot, that's your problem you need to get fixed in therapy.

But here's what annoys me the most about this whole thing: I know for a FACT that if MJ was the more attractive one and that FELICIA was mid-looking, you guys would then be SCREAMING for her to be with Peter instead of Felicia.

Really think about it. Without Felicia's looks, what kind of person is she? Is she really someone worth being with? Don't worry, I have the answer: NO-

Felicia is in NO way a better love interest for Peter and I'm tired of people acting like she is just because she looks like an Instagram cosplayer.

As if that makes it any better. If anything, all that's doing is giving me MORE proof as to why she's not a good person for him WHATSOEVER.

If the genders were reversed, you'd all be grossed out by Felicia, let's not even lie. If Felicia was a guy doing all of this to a female version of Peter, you'd all be calling him a creep and trying to cancel him on Twitter -_-

My Beef with Miguel O'Hara Pt. 2 - A Spiderverse Rant

My goodness, I despise this guy so much I had to make a part two-

If you want the context, you’ll have to read part one because there ain’t no way in HECK I’m repeating myself when I already said everything else.

And once again, I don’t care that this guy has a truckload of simps—I’m gonna beef with this guy till the planet’s gone. And if you read part one, you'd know exactly why even if I do end up being wrong on the 2nd part of this take SPECIFICALLY. I do not care how bonito this man looks, he's major CACA.

Going back to addressing the next point, here’s something I gotta ask y’all:

Don’t you find it weird? Don’t you find it odd? Don’t you find it PECULIAR even... How the one guy constantly going on about the ‘traditional Spider-Man”  Is FAR from BEING the traditional Spider-Man concept?

Look, I am perfectly willing to accept that maybe (just MAYBE) there’s some lore I’m missing here (as I really hope and wish I'm wrong about this as stated in part one), but you can not tell me that he’s a traditional Spider-Man.

First and foremost, the guy has a different hand gesture for even shooting out his webs. He doesn't shoot them in the way Peter traditionally shoots them---no. He shoots them FROM THE UPPER TOP OF HIS WRIST.

And on top of that, the guy didn't even get bit by a spider. HE HAS POWERS BECAUSE HE INJECTS HIMSELF WITH A SERUM! The guy has FANGS that secrete POISON for crying out loud. Which, granted, is pretty cool, but not a 'traditional' Spider-Man.

What other Spider hero within the Spiderverse do you know ALSO acts like a freaking animal after taking their super-meds? NONE---that's some Bane from DC bullcrap.

Even in the gif provided, the guy doesn't look like he's sticking to walls---he looks like he's CLAWING into it in order to stay on it.

He. Doesn't. Even. Have. Spider Sense.

Yep, that's right. The one guy who's hell-bent on the concept of the canon Spider-Man, doesn't even have the STAPLE of the classic Spider-Man powers. Instead he just has 'enhanced eyesight.' Miss me with that bull---

Let's not even get down to the fact that this guy was able to actually have a wife and a kid at some point. That's WAY more than Peter Parker's ever been able to get throughout MOST of his traditional iterations (considering that for some reason it's a canon event for his uncle and/or girlfriend to LITERALLY keep on DYING).

Sure, you could argue that the colors of his Spidey-suit (blue and red) are reflective of the traditional Spider-Man concept, but even then, they're inverted where BLUE is his main color INSTEAD of red.

I have no problem with the fact he strays out of a 'traditional' Spider-Man archetype. My problem is that he fact he strays out of it but then has the NERVE to aggressively police everyone else on standards that he HIMSELF could/can not uphold.

This is why I am so proud of Miles for looking at this man straight in the face and saying, "Are you sure you're even Spider-Man?" Because there ain't no way in DOOKIE that THIS guy---who's so far from the traditional Spider-Man archetype, is the one who's the most obsessed with it.

There's no other way around it for me, this man is a cult leader and that's it.

Characters Who Apologize/Change Before They Die - An Unpopular Character Writing Take

I'm so sorry, but characters who do a bunch of awful stuff and then apologize AS they're dying are straight up punks to me. You do not get to raise hell on this planet and then try to act like you learned your lesson now that you're seconds away from meeting your maker. 

Now granted, in some specific (and well done) cases, this can be an emotional or amazing moment for a character or plot line. However, most of the time (to me personally), it's just a lazy or improper way for a writer to make a 'redemption' arc for a character without having the said character put the work in. How on Earth am I supposed to have empathy (sympathy even) for a character that out of nowhere got a change of heart 00000.01 seconds after finding out they're dying?

Congratulations, you realized too late that you were a piece of dookie and can't even do anything to help clean the mess that YOU made. 

For example, I do not like Bakugou Katsuki whatsoever but at the very least HE of all people made the effort to apologize to Deku BEFORE he got murked and on top of that, actually tried to freaking HELP at some points. 

You got me messed up if you think I'm really about to feel bad for a character that did nothing but contribute to the pain and suffering of others around them, and then think they can die an angel just because they apologize or admit they were wrong. You're not slick, I know what you're doing. 

It's one thing to simply have that be a part of the plot and it's complete 'nother for the writers to try and gaslight me into feeling bad that the one who did nothing but cause problems is holding onto their final breath. Of course you wanna make things right now that you realize you're gonna be put to sleep for all eternity with potentially no one coming to the funeral. You had more than enough time, more than enough opportunities, to turn around and be better but you didn't take it. 

When it comes down to villain redemption (or character redemption IN GENERAL), I feel it's a rather delicate process that I feel usually (not all the time, but USUALLY) is written in either the flattest or laziest ways possible. And having a crappy character who did crappy stuff apologize from their last breath or because they were close to it is on that list. 

This isn't to say you can't like evil or horrible characters. You can like a character that does crappy stuff. But it's another thing to JUSTIFY the crappy stuff that they do. Stop acting like an angry 24/7 paid lawyer for this fictional being that I know for a FACT would not ever do the same for you should they be an actual person.

My Beef with Miguel O'Hara - A Spiderverse Rant

If you've read the title of this, you already know who I'm gonna be crapping on.

I know some of y'all are gonna flame me in the comments, but I do not care. Now, if you’re willing to bring up counterpoints about a FICTIONAL topic in a respectful manner, I’ll listen no problem because I don't mind being wrong (and I actually HOPE I'm wrong about this since I WAS excited about watching Miguel in action because there was so much hype around him). But if you take me having beef with a fictional character as me having beef with YOU, then I politely ask you to spare your mental health and drink some hot chocolate under a blanket after you click away from this post, thank you. 

Now back to the topic.

Most of us Spider-Man fans have seen the movie, "Across the Spider-Verse" at some point (and if you haven't, what are you doing? Go watch it, it's on Netflix). Excluding everything that makes it a masterpiece aside, there's one character in the movie who really grinds my gears. Not in terms of how they’re written, but more so just how they are as a person in general. 

Miguel O'Freaking'Hara. 

I do not like Miguel. I feel pity for him, but I do not like him. I do like him as a character, though. I feel like he definitely adds to the story and makes it interesting. I genuinely feel like ATSV would’ve been really boring if he wasn’t part of it. But I do not like him as a person. 

Miguel doesn't JUST have a stick up his butt, he has the whole TREE.

I couldn't care less about the fact this dude looks like a handsome statue because of the stuff he was doing to Miles. I think y’all forgot that this dude THREW A TABLE AT A MINOR UPON FIRST MEETING HIM and then has the nerve to throw away the food Miles got for him like it's trash. If that’s already not a red flag, I don’t know what is.

I don’t care if it was just ‘frustration.’ Miguel's 27 years old, he should know better. Unless Miles was attacking him in the beginning (which he wasn’t), there’s no reason he should’ve done that. But oh…I have much more beef with this dude than just a table. 

I understand that his supposed role and whatnot in the Spiderverse is that he has to keep canon events going. He has to get rid of 'anomalies.’ Unfortunately, Miles Morales (from Earth-1610) is an anomaly because he was never supposed to be the Spider-Man of his universe. So, what does Miguel do? He tries to obliterate the guy.

…Ex–freaking-scuse me?

"Oh, but Miguel tried to talk to Miles about everything!" 

Yeah. And he did it in the worst way possible. Miguel had absolutely no empathy towards the whole situation, then has the gall to wonder why Miles is running off and not listening to him. No dip, Sherlock. I'm pretty sure if you harshly told any normal person that someone they loved deeply was going to die and that they couldn't save them without any hint of compassion, they'd go against what you said and try to find a way to save them, bro. 

Miguel's whole schmo is that Miles becoming Spider-Man was bad because it created Spot and Spot's creating a bunch of problems. As a result, Miguel also tells Miles that saving his dad is not allowed. Here's where I have a problem with that logic. If Miles being Spider-Man is an anomaly in the first place, why NOT save Jeff as a way to prevent more anomalies from HAPPENING? If anything, Miles losing his dad would've just been another canon event for him to continue BEING Spider-Man, even though he wasn't supposed to be. Legit, this dude’s logic irritates the pee out of me.

Miguel's approach to the problem is also hypocritical considering that he lost his own wife and daughter in the universe he belonged to, then invaded ANOTHER UNIVERSE he didn't belong to, which honestly in my opinion makes Miguel look even worse to me. I'm willing to bet that Miguel’s alternate daughter could’ve been that universe’s spider hero, but because THIS vampire edge lord stepped into a universe that was NOT his, it prevented the canon event of the classic “Dead Guardian trope,” leading to that universe’s evaporation.

Another thing that irks me about the whole thing is that MILES IS LIKE 15-16 YEARS OLD. So as far as I'm concerned, O'Hara is trying to eliminate a KID. Even though he knows what it's like to lose a KID. No wonder the multiverse prevented him from being a father—he’s violent, unstable, and completely short-sighted. He’s out here chokeslamming a teenager and calling THEM the mistake. Just because you went through grief and trauma with your own children, it isn't an excuse to take the breath of another child. 

(Y'know, considering the events of Multiverse of Madness, I'm kinda seeing a pattern here--)

Miguel, for some reason, refuses to have a smidge of sensitivity for what Miles is going through. Heck, even Gwen and Peter Parker had more empathy for Miles despite them not telling him he wasn't supposed to be Spider-Man because they actually cared about his feelings TO SOME DEGREE.

I hate Miguel’s whole “You’re a mistake!” speech because Miles didn't create the spider. Miles didn't summon the spider. Miles didn’t choose to get bit. He didn’t find it on his own terms. Miles didn't choose to create Spot—the one who’s actually causing them problems. Someone ELSE brought the spider there. Someone ELSE took away a universe’s Spider-Man. Miles is just trying to deal with what he’s been given. So if Miguel wants to go after ANYONE for ‘anomalies’ in terms of Miles’ universe, he needs to track down the person who put something where it didn’t belong.

For crying out loud, he told the boy that HE was a mistake. It’d be one thing if he said “You being Spider-Man was a mistake” or something. But no. He says that Miles IS the mistake.

During that whole speech, it sounds like Miguel is trying to tell Miles that everything is HIS fault as if Miles had a choice in being bit. As if Miles even had a choice in the fact that a radioactive spider from an alternate universe chose to bite him. 

There were so many other ways Miguel could've handled the issue and he didn’t do that. I don’t care what his so-called intentions could/would be because it really put a disgusting taste in my mouth. 

I still have no respect for the fact that he hypocritically and previously invaded another reality where he was dead so he could be with his family--and here's what I mean by that.

Yes, I understand--Miguel's life on his original earth was freaking sad. He lost his wife and daughter. That's obviously a very tragic thing to go through. But it’s the fact that he's cracking down on Miles so badly despite Miguel LITERALLY being the one to pull a Kingpin vexes me. Miles had ALWAYS belonged to his universe. Miguel’s only in the dump he’s in because he was trespassing.

Don't get me wrong, I feel pity but I absolutely cannot stand the audacity of this man to go after a kid who got bit IN HIS OWN UNIVERSE even though Miguel was the one who contributed to some multiversal disaster in the Spider-verse. You could try to say, "Oh, it's because he doesn't want to make the same mistake again and shatter the Spider-verse or something!" While I could understand that, it’s still not a good reason for Miguel to do and say the stuff he did. I thought at the bare minimum, he'd be at least able to RELATE to Miles considering that he also lost people he cared about.

End conclusion: 

Miguel is vexing to me–but I don’t hate the way he’s written. If anything, I think if he wasn’t written this way, the ASTV movie would be very different. Whether that’d be for the better or the worse, I’m willing to bet most of this storyline wouldn’t even exist were Miguel not like this. So even though Miguel absolutely grinds my gears with his mindset and who he is as a character—I’m not mad at his writers. And I honestly feel like that’s just a showmanship of how great the writing for the Spider-Verse movies is. Good writing is when you’re mad at characters for the decisions THEY make, and not at the WRITERS for having them make those decisions.

Sewing Machines & Planned Obsolescence

I've got these two sewing machines, made about 100 years apart. An old treadle machine from around 1920-1930, that I pulled out of the trash on a rainy day, and a new Brother sewing machine from around 2020.

I've always known planned obsolescence was a thing, but I never knew just how insidious it was till I started looking at these two side by side.

I wasn't feeling hopeful at first that I'd actually be able to fix the old one, I found it in the trash at 2 am in a thunderstorm. It was rusty, dusty, soggy, squeaky, missing parts, and 100 years old.

How do you even find specialized parts 100 years later? Well, easily, it turns out. The manufacturers at the time didn't just make parts backwards compatible to be consistent across the years, but also interchangeable across brands! Imagine that today, being able to grab a part from an old iPhone to fix your Android.

Anyway, 6 months into having them both, I can confidently say that my busted up trash machine is far better than my new one, or any consumer-grade sewing machine on the market.

Old Machine Guts

The old machine? Can sew through a pile of leather thicker than my fingers like it's nothing. (it's actually terrifying and I treat it like a power tool - I'll never sew drunk on that thing because I'm genuinely afraid it'd sew through a finger!) At high speeds, it's well balanced and doesn't shake. The parts are all metal, attached by standard flathead screws, designed to be simple and strong, and easily reachable behind large access doors. The tools I need to work on it? A screwdriver and oil. Lost my screwdriver? That's OK, a knife works too.

New Machine Guts

The new machine's skipping stitches now that the plastic parts are starting to wear out. It's always throwing software errors, and it damn near shakes itself apart at top speed. Look at it's innards - I could barely fit a boriscope camera that's about as thick as spaghetti in there let alone my fingers. Very little is attached with standard screws.

And it's infuriating. I'm an engineer - there's no damn reason to make high-wear parts out of plastic. Or put them in places they can't be reached to replace. There's no reason to make your mechanism so unbalanced it's reaching the point of failure before reaching it's own design speed. (Oh yeah there is, it's corporate greed)

100 years, and your standard home sewing machine has gone from a beast of a machine that can be pulled out of the literal waterlogged trash and repaired - to a machine that eats itself if you sew anything but delicate fast-fashion fabrics that are also designed to fall apart in a few years.

Looking for something modern built to the standard that was set 100 years ago? I'd be looking at industrial machines that are going for thousands of dollars... Used on craigslist. I don't even want to know what they'd cost new.

We have the technology and knowledge to manufacture "old" sewing machines still. Hell, even better, sewing machines with the mechanical design quality of the old ones, but with more modern features. It would be so easy - at a technical level to start building things well again. Hell, it's easier to fabricate something sturdy than engineer something to fail at just the right time. (I have half a mind to see if any of my meche friends with machine shops want to help me fabricate an actually good modern machine lol)

We need to push for right-to-repair laws, and legislation against planned obsolescence. Because it's honestly shocking how corporate greed has downright sabotaged good design. They're selling us utter shit, and expecting us to come back for more every financial quarter? I'm over it.

Tumblr mature content ban needs to fuck off. I'm seeing authors posts yet can't see their profile, just told "this profile may contain mature content" OK??? AND??? LET ME PROCEED?? I'm a grown ass man wanting to read fics. If you're gonna put warnings on peoples accounts atleast then still let people make their own choice if they proceed on that person's profile or not, don't just take that away.

It's fucking redundant. If I can still see their posts but not their profile then that kinda defeats the purpose of tagging their content as mature, no? So they just need to fuck off completely.

the new Until Dawn movie makes me so mad, not only because it has nothing to do with the game but it’s basically the complete opposite. the Until Dawn game was all about making decisions and having a butterfly effect - not being able to go back to change it, having to just deal with the outcome even if it’s bad. but in the movie the whole plot is you HAVE to go back and change your decisions, it just feels weird that a movie adaptation of a game so heavily based on the butterfly effect goes so against that in the plot???

if the mha leaks are real im honestly not that surprised, because how many times has this happened before? media will purposefully make posts or scenes interpretive where if you’re looking, you can see how gay it is. but in the end it’s never actually going to be a queer representation, they just hint at it because they know that then they’ll get a wider audience with new queer people excited for representation, but they know that if they end with a straight couple queer people will be angry, but they wouldn’t stop watching the show. but if they end with a gay couple, they can loose so many people from their audience. oops i don’t even think i’m talking about just mha anymore.. but i swear it’s every show

I am kinda frustrated over rp stuff, I know it's cringe to be but idc. I'm also struggling to find something to be positive about when my brain is in a negative space because of how I am. I also am super disappointed, I decided to close an SH RP yesterday because I felt that a month with no reply was really long.

Rant about my overconsuption with nail polish below. Read if you dare lol

The struggle of having so much of one thing you love the the point of it overwhelming you to the point of not wanting it anymore is such a bitch. I always get it with my massive nail polish collection. This only started with me becoming a fan of simply nailogical back in middle school. I became such a fan that me and my mom bought many polishes for myself, and then in recent years, she started to buy nail polish for herself too. My collection is so large that it's in or near the hundreds. It's all on these racks my mom bought (she had to buy a second to fit all the polish, and still I have some in extra bins). But now all I can see is the overwhelming amount of nail polish that I own, some drug store/ walmart brand, and some that are expensive, like Holo Taco. I've gotten so much nail polish over the years, some as holiday gifts and others just from passing by them in the store. I had a problem with buying, but now I have a problem with being unable to get rid of it. When I try to paint my nails, the self-doubt of if I'll hate it later latches onto me like a bloodsucking leech. I wish I could get rid of it like old clothes I don't wear but my mom won't let me. I know when I move out, I'm not taking all these nail polishes with me, I just can't. It's all too much, and I execute my solution.

Crying atm for being jealous that my boyfriend has such great friends and hangs out with them and I'm at home being a hermit doomscrolling and i have to be asked to get up from my bed. I need to get a therapist quick.

TLDR: I think they’re relationship is very interesting because of the fact of how morally gray the two of them are. I don’t support them being together in current phases but I believe they were together at some point in phases 1 and 2. Those guys have too many instances of blatant queercoded flirting where they could not not have feelings towards one another. I also believe the roles that were once present in their relationship (2-D has crush on Murdoc but Murdoc rejects him.) are now in the midst of being reversed, (Murdoc has a crush on 2-D but 2-D rejects him.) most likely as the result of the ending we got during the Lost Chord MV.

Oh definitely. Although, I’d like to say while I’m not the biggest 2doc fan, I definitely believe that they probably had a relationship at some point in the lore. A majority of their interactions within phase 1 to 2 just doesn’t make sense if they didn’t, but that’s entirely my opinion. However, I don’t like how some people within the Gorillaz fandom tend to paint their relationship as a completely black and white thing. Like I feel like many just say “the two of them of them are deeply in love and have always been together” or “the relationship is toxic and it’s gross” but like with how nuanced the lore has been up to this point, wouldn’t it make more sense if it was both? Like, relationships are much more complicated than just being in love or being toxic, and I feel like it’s been clearly shown how gray their relationship is.

Like, the two of them aren’t angels. (especially Murdoc)

Murdoc, even though he was a victim of both child and sexual abuse, he later became an abuser. Whether it be because of:

His alcoholism, which has been made clear he uses as a coping mechanism for his abuse.

A lack of treatment of his trauma, especially due to the generation his was born in, wherein it was expected for men not to share their feelings or trauma due to societal pressure, aka: toxic masculinity or his refusal to acknowledge said problems due to not wanting to revisit those memories.

He has learned to hate himself so much that he has become the thing he hated. In his own words from the Plastic Beach interview, “In order to fight monsters, you have to become a monster of some sort yourself. Take out all the soft, fluffy bits and become empty.”

His overall need to control every aspect of his life and those around him since he wasn’t able to stop the abuse as a child. (Ex: He pursued music because he wanted to make it the way he wanted to and not let his father control which road he went down. He considers himself the leader of Gorillaz so no one else can control what he does with them. Murdoc hyper-sexualizing himself in some instances might be the result of another coping mechanism. If he controls what he does with his body he doesn’t have to think about his trauma associated with sex, which is a rare but not uncommon trait amongst victims of sexual assault.)

It’s most likely a combination of some, if not all of the above.

2-D has his own fair share of problems as well.

He is a well-known drug addict with a liking to painkillers and references to him also doing cocaine. His addiction only amping up after meeting Murdoc, however it’s questionable as to whether or not this was because Murdoc helped enable his pre-existing addiction to painkillers or if this was a result of 2-D’s own codependency.

He’s both a victim and enabler as he consistently, from Phase 1 to 2 and some instances in 4, makes excuses for or straight up doesn’t acknowledge Murdoc’s abuse towards him and the other band members and allows it to continue for nearly 20 years.

While known to be quite humble and kind, he can be quite petty and can have quite the ego. (Ex: Literally look at his behavior in several interviews and how he treated the band during Phase 5. Also, in We Are The Dury, 2-D makes a joke about Murdoc as he recounts his time being imprisoned Mexico saying, “I don’t think I could eat another burrito in my life.” To which 2-D responds with “But you still like a bit of Mexican sausage, ay man?” and proceeds to laugh. This is most likely in reference to the MTV Mexican Jail ident where a prisoner is about to sexually assault Murdoc as the video cuts off. Murdoc, upset by 2-D’s remark, he tells him to shut up and calls him the f-slur.)

He has been shown to become physically abusive towards Murdoc, however this is only when pushed to his very limits. (Ex: During the infamous Plastic Beach Interview, he can be heard attacking Murdoc after he mentioned Paula Cracker before Murdoc managed to overpower and chloroform 2-D into submission.)

Now, of course. This doesn’t mean that one of them is entirely the villain and the other is a complete saint. That just isn’t the true nature of their relationship. The two of them are innately complex and thus their relationship is filled to the brim with ambiguity. They are neither good or bad people. They are simply characters with very human problems and emotions. The both of them are simply too fucked up with each other to continue a healthy dynamic.

Personally, I think they did love each other at some point, probably more around phase 1 or 2 but it certainly wasn’t overtly romantic or happy. The two of them were clearly codependent. Whether it’s 2-D who comes crawling back to Murdoc because he feels he could fix his problems if he stays with him or forgives him, believing he could change and they could be happy together only for that thought come crashing down once the El Mañana incident occurred. Or Murdoc, who not only continues this stringing 2-D along, especially with that fact that he not only needs him for the band to keep existing but also, in a more sad twist, he’s probably the only person that has outwardly shown any kind of genuine affection towards him. 2-D’s essentially his safety net, an excuse for him to continue being shitty because he keeps forgiving him. For the longest time, he didn’t want forgiveness for his actions, he just doesn’t want to believe that he’s a bad person. No one wants to believe they’re a bad person unless they’re put into a situation that makes them actively question their own actions. And for a long time Murdoc refused to do that. Possibly another reason as to why he showed so much vitriol towards 2-D is because of how lucky he felt he was.

I’m surprised this doesn’t get brought up more often when discussing their relationship. Like, 2-D literally lived the life that Murdoc never had. He’s part of a loving nuclear family that accepts him for who he is, he was popular in school, probably was never bullied, had good looks, and a job. His life was practically given to him on a silver platter while Murdoc got to live with the scraps. His whole life, Murdoc suffered to get where he is. Why did he get to live such a happy, carefree life but not him? He wanted to hate 2-D for all of those reasons, but couldn’t because he didn’t want to let go of the one person who cared about him. And now, due to his actions, has to face the consequences of 2-D leaving him behind.

That’s probably why we’re getting bits of his reputation arc now. He’s in the midst of addressing his problems. Not all of them, of course. He is one stubborn bastard after all. But I believe that after breaking out of prison in Phase 5, he realized how much 2-D and by extension, the band, really meant to him. While yes, he did go to prison and later lied when the attention was off him. In response, he started the Free Murdoc movement. It was only after seeing Noodle run to Patagonia, believing his lies and putting herself in danger because of his fib, he began to realize that he was in the wrong. Not just then but for everything. He said it himself at the end of the Free Murdoc chat;

“Cos in the end, the experience DID free me. Not from Wormwood Scrubs — but from that other far worse prison I was in… MYSELF. The worst prison a person can be in… I was in a prison of my own making, but thanks to you — I’ve busted out. This long, long journey has made me a better man.”

And with that he swore to change. We even see him realizing how much his actions had impact in Phase 6. Since making the Now Now, 2-D has finally learned to move on without him. Plastic Beach might have been the moment he realized how fucked up their relationship was but the Now Now was the moment he stood up against the abuse and won. Murdoc noticing this, did everything to get his attention at first. He made him tea and even went out with him but nothing worked. That’s why we see him crying in Desole, he knows that whatever relationship he and 2-D or the band before will never be the same. It’s only when he actively proved himself to the band and that he did care for them that 2-D reached out of the portal to rescue him in Lost Chord. I don’t think he forgave him for what he put him through or that they’re gonna start over again, but it’s a sign that the two of them are improving themselves and that’s good!

I do have to wonder with this current phase though if their roles are reversed because before, 2-D was the one that was openly showed love for Murdoc while he rejected 2-D’s advances at nearly every turn. But now I think that’s been switched. Now Murdoc, of all people, is chasing him while 2-D, someone who’s been idolizing Murdoc for years, doesn’t acknowledge him. I mean, look at their playlists on Spotify right now. In G-Mix 17, almost all of Murdoc’s songs have been about UNREQUITED LOVE (the strongest examples being R&B by English Teacher, Security by Amyl and the Sniffers, Hung Up by The Mysterines, and Landline by Binki) whereas 2-D’s have been about FALLING OUT OF IT. (Examples being YKWIM by Yot Club, Not Into You by Brooksie, and Anybody Else But U by poolsideconvo) It’s almost like they are finally beginning to meet in the middle and mend somewhat but Murdoc has (at least so far) been slowly beginning to accept that he actually likes him but knows that 2-D has already moved on?? I’m really excited to see how their relationship improves going forward as it’s been really interesting to see their development in the last two phases so far.

Sorry about the incredibly long rant, I just love it when there’s genuinely good subtext and complex nuance into characters’ psyches, especially when done well.

Love how in past phases 2D admired Murdoc but in certain interviews I feel like Murdoc is (not so) secretly attracted to 2D as in lust. While 2D is just completely oblivious most of the time

Oh no yeah facts, you don't call someone A LITERAL GOD and a pretty boy if you feel normally about them. 2-D is definitely oblivious, but so is Murdoc I think. Their dynamic was always stupidly complicated, and it only spiraled further phases 3 and 5. They don't even know what they have going on, really- and that's okay! relationships don't have to be perfect. to deny those kinds of relationships are real and normal is immature and only stifles awareness and enables people not to recognize toxic behaviour.

Rain Walk- mhw #1

I have decided to document a series where I chronicle the walks I take for my mental health. Let us begin for this past Saturday when it was raining.

View from near by neighborhood. Blurred for cool effects and to make the pretty lights stand out.

Who doesn’t love a good walk in the rain? This was purely spur of the moment but something in me was just telling me that I NEEDED to be out in that rain walking around. Especially since it was starting to slow down.

It’s been rough ngl. Also the feeling of the rain sprinkling in your skin is 20/10. Another 20/10 is walking in the rain while ALSO listening to a liminal space playlist. I highly recommend it.Also the fog starting to drop in was another 20/10.

The rain in a way can feel like a liminal space because of how empty the roads can be. Liminal spaces are shown to be rather lonely which was sort of the case on my walk. Just occasional car would pass by. Now I’m thinking about liminal rooms with a rain landscapes. That sounds cool.

I started to notice on my walk there are only specific types of people that really take walks on the rain:

Big Dog Walkers

Smokers

The Mentally Ill Like Me

The Occasional Avid Elderly Walker

Of course they all make perfect sense for different reasons, but if there’s anyone I’d prefer the pass it’s the smoker as they always have a unique sense of style. The smoker I passed had a striped shirt and green hair. Kinda like that one Danganronpa character whose name I can’t remember.

And another great thing about walks in the rain is you’ll find little friends on the sidewalk as pictured below:

Pictured are Mx. Snail and the Earthworm. Couldn’t find the earthworm on my second loop around so I hope they’re okay. The Snail went to hide in their shell and I respect that. Some people are just camera shy and you can’t change that.

Well, that’s all I have left to say on the matter. I’ll probably take another walk tomorrow, been wanting to explore this canyon.

So Google, not just Chrome, but Google itself, hates ad blockers.

I get it, ads make money for way less effort and customer involvement than subscriptions and paywalls.

The problem is, as cybersecurity professionals have said, ads are a security risk for every system they interact with. Even if you don't click any ads ever, they're still a security risk.

How are they a security risk? Because ads are allowed to run code to perform their tasks. This code is supplied by the ad provider, and if all it ever did was provide a link, a hovertext/description for the visually impaired, and maybe a non-gif animation, this would be a non-issue on all but the weakest internet connections.

They are not all like that, though.

Endless cases of ad providers, site providers, even your actual ISP (Internet Service Provider) have been proven to inject arbitrary code, capable of doing a great number of things, into ads, links, images, video, etc.

This code has had scripts to use your computer's processing power to help mine Bitcoin so long as it's on the page the code started on, it's been used to install malware (even by your ISP in one particularly bad case), it's been used to just install viruses or keyloggers or so many more things.

Hell, even the not-malicious code can just bog down your computer by being terribly written messes of badly functioning code, so something that should run with barely any impact instead takes up ridiculous amounts of processing power and capacity.

This is a problem, and it's largely solvable by simply blocking ads. There's no native way to prevent ads from running scripts or code without disabling all JavaScript on every page, which effectively kills most pages you go to since every drop-down menu, every page-altering section (like the Google images thing), most search bars, video playback, and so much more, all depend entirely on JavaScript.

Google wants to take away that necessary security of blocking problematic ads, rather than just make a way to disable the problematic aspects of ads.

I dislike ads, especially when they take up more than about 25% of the screen. I'd ideally like to see little to no ads ever, but I understand how ads support the sites they're on, support creators on streaming services, etc.

I'd be okay with classic banner ads, basic image/link ads, even the before/during/after video ads, if they weren't almost guaranteed to be literally hostile. If Google hates ad blockers so much, they should make them less of a safety requirement by letting us choose to disable ad scripts, or even just block that entire concept, because no ads for any worthwhile service or product have ever needed to run scripts. If an image or GIF of your product/service, maybe with a quick description, isn't selling your product/service, then making it hover over the page content, make noise, and mine Bitcoin will only piss your target audience off, while proudly claiming that you are the one doing it.

Would you buy a product that tricks you into interacting with it through just being annoying and pulling the sibling trick of "I'm not touching you, see? I'm touching your computer, not you?"

Hell, pop-up ads were basically scriptless and still managed to piss off most of the people who encountered them. The guy who invented them made a public apology for having developed that 'extremely intrusive' marketing method. Now ISPs have been caught injecting malware into links that you click on while using their service, with the express intent of installing them to your computer to monitor what you do and block access to sites they don't want you on.

You want the Internet to be safe? Don't fight porn or violence, that has never done anything but drive up interest. Fight the people actively making the Internet literally unsafe to use regardless of age or system.

I'll accept ads if ad providers stop making automatic malware.

I was so excited because my mom agreed to buy BATIM for me because she's always buying stuff for my sis. Come to find out... The game isn't compatible with my computer. Pay for it, download it and everything and I'm sitting there about to cry. I really, really wanted to play the game and when I get the chance, something always happens to screw it up for me. Knew it was too good to be true.

EVERY FUCKING CRACKER BRAND FUCKING SUCKS, other than saltines and triskets. If you saw those godawful Ritz crackers.. WHY WOULD YOU GO FOR THOSE FOR YOUR CHEESE RATHER THAN TRISKETS. Ritz crackers taste like ass with a weird texture and semi sweetness... why... if you want slight sweetness with your crackers HAVE JAM. IDC RITZ SUCK ASS IMO. I know some people don't like saltines due to the saltiness, but... that's in the name. I am pretty sure Ritz have no health differences with triskets either? AND if you want to say for the argument "Ohhh but I love my peanut butter with my ritz" WHY NOT SALTINES?? Saltines go WAY better with peanut butter than those Ritz.

Not shifting rant, but I just want to ask how people keep up with schedules and everything 🥲. I just missed my drivers license appointment today, I couldn’t take it because I didn’t have a paper, and I want to cry waterfalls. And I was late too!? The shame and embarrassment makes me want to eat glass

ive seen a lot of hate regarding bakugo's character development, and though i understand most people's viewpoint, we have to remember that bakugo was inheritly a kid that was taught high expectations from early on, he was praised since young, taught that his worth came from his abilities. either he was the best, or he was nothing. he had a mentality where you were all or none. he never had any room for failure admist all that, so he couldn't grow to accept the fact that izuku was better. and by disregarding bakugo's development as much haters do, you're disregarding izukus strength. the whole fandom sees izuku as weak, which is inheritly wrong. izuku was strong, not because he had OFA, not because he had All Might beside him, but because he kept going no matter what was in front of him. and Bakugou loathed that, because all he saw was strength. and he couldn't bear the fact that Izuku held his head up high regardless of how physically weak he was. it didnt make sense to him, so he tried to wear Izuku's strength down, by bullying him, by lowering his worth. and it still didn't work. because izuku would always be stronger, and you know what the strongest thing izuku did was? it was forgiving Bakugou. the reason why Bakugou could never be as strong as izuku was because he was scared of being weak. but izuku was weak, yet he still kept going. and because of that, Bakugo thought he was looking down on him. Bakugous journey is accepting that, its trying to change all he was taught his entire childhood. and its not easy to do that, when you've had your ego held up high your entire life, when your mindset was shifted to only being of worth. all he was is a scared 15year old, growing into someone that can come to understand their flaws and make amends for it.

Maybe it’s just because the ramen cup I dropped on my foot earlier, but Tumbler live looks stupid and void of any real content.

Being forced to see people currently streaming is also an annoyance from simply clicking on this app.

Its really my favorite cartoon series of all time and there is SO MUCH I COULD SAY ABOUT IT THAT IT FEELS OVERWHELMING

The art style is literally my favorite art style ever and even as a kid I just know that it would’ve also been my favorite. The blocky yet detailed characters are so cool and OH MY GOD THE COLOR SCHEMES GSKSHS I love them so much. I could just eat that art style UP, MAN. You have NO IDEA how drastically it has affected my current art style.

The different character designs are so different yet fit them perfectly. Even thought they don’t all look the same, none of them are actually ugly and when you think about it, thats not always the case in media (what I mean is that when a character doesn’t conform to the classic protagonist look, they’re usually pretty caricatured and usually even ugly :/)

I also love the humour and the writing jdldhdm the jokes just jeep on getting better and you can TELL that the writers are having fun with it (thats my favourite feeling in the world)

And the voice acting??? Hello??? I love it????

Animation and writing wise, you can tell that it was a passion project. Until I realised that the show was un-officially cancelled, I was seriously wondering HOW a show with such detailed HAND-ANIMATED animation could survive. Even though it has been cancelled, just knowing that it could even EXIST gives me hope in the future generations of animation (in which I will hopefully be WORKING IN)

Although i was sure the show could never last long I’m SO MAD THAT THEY COULDNT GIVE IT THE ENDING IT DESERVED AGHHHHGDKDGDJDH it’s incredibly frustrating and it had so much potential. It was supposed to be only 3 seasons too😭😭😭 with the story, they could’ve honestly gone for 5 to 6 seasons, they were just being humble istg.

Anyways, sorry for the rant but I could say SO MUCH more and I just HAD to get some out, if you’ve read this far, I genuinely hope you have a wonderful day and thank you💖
