I have planned on making my own blog for like a lot, and my idea was to get domain, to manually write it.... IT still is. But knowing this place, I do feel it offes pretty much anything you would want, also it's been 3 days! :F

I am afraid of going on blogfesting, my biggest challenge is to keep it to myself sometimes, this place definitely feels really cool... And I don't want to ruin my blog by being too weird.

First, I really love Jack from Baki, right now he is really well treated... It's common knowledge if people know me but I am also jaw training and wear his shirt. To me, Jack is really cool. I love seeing his progress and journey, but I doubt the writer will let him kill his father..... Unfortunately.

I Have Planned On Making My Own Blog For Like A Lot, And My Idea Was To Get Domain, To Manually Write

He is ready to sacrifice himself to become stronger but he is very stoic and always appeared stoicish... I really hope the authors don't ruin him, I do have a bit of a bad feeling about it. He was also raised Christian when he was a kid, originally he did not intend on using drugs to become stronger... That has been something that was offered to him by scientist who needed human experiment, so he is partially affected by the world itself to be evil.

Of course, thee steroids he had were worse than usual, but steroids in general are bad for long term health. Steroids have of course had adverse effect on him...

Oh, nvm this is the wrong picture.

I Have Planned On Making My Own Blog For Like A Lot, And My Idea Was To Get Domain, To Manually Write

He also defeated Pickles! :F I didn't expect that, there was not much build up here and it was one-sided defeat. So I wonder about that.

While some men go for style and character, others go for brute stoicism. Both Astolfo and Jack are definitely one of the best characters, I am rooting for them. :D

I hope you enjoyed my post, I am new here and I am not very good at socializing with homosapiens.

The Other Assumption Game

Since “The Assumption Game” has been popular recently, here’s the mind control/bimbo version.

Post this to your blog if you want messages with assumptions about you that are either true or false.

You will respond to each of these messages that the assumption made about you is true.  And for exactly one hour after your response, that assumption will become true for you, and you will act accordingly.

5 Training Requirements for New Astronauts

After evaluating a record number of applications, we will introduce our newest class of astronaut candidates on June 7!

image

Upon reporting to duty at our Johnson Space Center in Houston, the new astronaut candidates will complete two years of training before they are eligible to be assigned to a mission.

Here are the five training criteria they must check off to graduate from astronaut candidate to astronaut:

1. T-38 Jets

image

Astronauts have been training in T-38 jets for more than 35 years because the sleek, white jets require crew members to think quickly in dynamic situations and to make decisions that have real consequences. This type of mental experience is critical to preparing for the rigors of spaceflight. To check off this training criteria, astronaut candidates must be able to safely operate in the T-38 as either a pilot or back seater.

2. International Space Station Systems

image

We are currently flying astronauts to the International Space Station every few months. Astronauts aboard the space station are conducting experiments benefitting humanity on Earth and teaching us how to live longer in space. Astronaut candidates learn to operate and maintain the complex systems aboard the space station as part of their basic training.

3. Spacewalks

image

Spacewalks are the hardest thing, physically and mentally, that astronauts do. Astronaut candidates must demonstrate the skills to complete complex spacewalks in our Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (giant pool used to simulate weightlessness).  In order to do so, they will train on the life support systems within the spacesuit, how to handle emergency situations that can arise and how to work effectively as a team to repair the many critical systems aboard the International Space Station to keep it functioning as our science laboratory in space.

4. Robotics

image

Astronaut candidates learn the coordinate systems, terminology and how to operate the space station’s robotic arm. They train in Canada for a two week session where they develop more complex robotics skills including capturing visiting cargo vehicles with the arm. The arm, built by the Canadian Space Agency, is capable of handling large cargo and hardware, and helped build the entire space station. It has latches on either end, allowing it to be moved by both flight controllers on the ground and astronauts in space to various parts of the station.

5. Russian Language

image

The official languages of the International Space Station are English and Russian, and all crewmembers – regardless of what country they come from – are required to know both. NASA astronauts train with their Russian crew mates and launch on the Russian Soyuz vehicle, so it makes sense that they should be able to speak Russian. Astronaut candidates start learning the language at the beginning of their training. They train on this skill every week, as their schedule allows, to keep in practice.

Now, they are ready for their astronaut pin!

After completing this general training, the new astronaut candidates could be assigned to missions performing research on the International Space Station, launching from American soil on spacecraft built by commercial companies, and launching on deep space missions on our new Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket.

NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Lab: The Ultimate Underwater Simulator for Astronauts

NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) is a state-of-the-art underwater facility located in Houston, Texas. It serves as an underwater simulation environment for astronauts to train for spacewalks and other extravehicular activities (EVAs). The NBL is one of the most advanced training facilities in the world and plays a critical role in preparing astronauts for the challenges they will face in space.

The NBL is a massive indoor pool that is over 200 feet long, 100 feet wide, and 40 feet deep. It contains a full-scale mock-up of the International Space Station (ISS) and other space structures, allowing astronauts to practice and perfect their spacewalking techniques in a controlled and safe environment. The pool is filled with over 6 million gallons of water, which provides a simulated weightless experience similar to that of space.

Astronauts are equipped with a full spacewalk suit, which provides them with life support and protection from the harsh conditions of space. The suit is buoyant, which makes it difficult for astronauts to move around in water. To overcome this challenge, the suit is weighted with lead weights to balance out the buoyancy, making it possible for astronauts to move around freely in the water. This process of weight balancing is called "neutral buoyancy," which gives the NBL its name.

The NBL is not only a training facility for spacewalking, but it is also used to test new spacewalk equipment and procedures. It allows engineers and scientists to observe how equipment and procedures perform in a simulated microgravity environment. This information is then used to make improvements and ensure the safety of astronauts in space.

One of the unique features of the NBL is its ability to simulate various lighting conditions, including daylight, nighttime, and the red lighting that is used during spacewalks. This capability allows astronauts to train for all types of spacewalking scenarios and ensures that they are well-prepared for any situation they may encounter in space.

In conclusion, NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Lab is a crucial component of astronaut training and space exploration. It provides a safe and controlled environment for astronauts to train for spacewalks and other EVAs, while also allowing engineers and scientists to test new equipment and procedures. The NBL plays a vital role in ensuring the success and safety of NASA's space missions.

wildlife study design & analysis

Wildlife Study Design & Analysis

To cater for my lack of knowledge in biological data sampling and analysis, I actually signed up for the 'Wildlife Study Design and Data Analysis' organized by Biodiversity Conservation Society Sarawak

So, this new year, I've decided to take it down a notch and systematically choose my battlefield. Wildlife species data has always been mystery at me. As we all know, biologists hold them close to their hearts to the point of annoyance sometimes (those movies with scientists blindly running after some rare orchids or snakes or something like that really wasn't kidding). Hey...I get it and I totally agree - the data that belongs to the organization has to be treated with utmost confidentiality and all by the experts that collects them. Especially since we all know that they are not something so easily retrieved. Even more so, I optimistically support for the enthusiasm to be extended to their data cleaning and storing too while they're at it. But it doesn't mean I have to like the repercussions. Especially not when someone expects a habitat suitability map from me and I have no data to work with and all I had is a ping-pong game of exchanging jargon in the air with the hopes that the other player gets what you mean cough up something you can work with. Yes...there is not a shred of shame here when I talk about how things work in the world, but it is what it is and I'm not mad. It's just how it works in the challenging world of academics and research.

To cater for my lack of knowledge in biological data sampling and analysis, I actually signed up for the 'Wildlife Study Design and Data Analysis' organized by

Biodiversity Conservation Society Sarawak (BCSS for short)

or

Pertubuhan Biodiversiti Konservasi Sarawak

It just ended yesterday and I can't say I did not cry internally. From pain and gratitude and accomplishment of the sort. 10 days of driving back and forth between the city center and UNIMAS was worth the traffic shennanigans.

It is one of those workshops where you really do get down to the nitty-gritty part of understanding probability distribution from scratch; how to use it for your wildlife study data sampling design and analyzing them to obtain species abundance, occupancy or survival. And most importantly, how Bayes has got anything to do with it. I've been hearing and seeing Bayesian stats, methods and network on almost anything that involves data science, R and spatial stats that I am quite piffed that I did not understand a thing. I am happy to inform that now, I do. Suffice to say that it was a bootcamp well-deserved of the 'limited seats' reputation and the certificate really does feel like receiving a degree. It dwindles down to me realizing a few things I don't know:

I did not know that we have been comparing probabilities instead of generating a 'combined' one based on a previous study all these years.

I did not know that Ronald Fisher had such strong influence that he could ban the usage of Bayesian inference by deeming it unscientific.

I did not know that, for Fisher, if the observation cannot be repeated many times and is uncertain, then, the probability cannot be determined - which is crazy! You can't expect to shoot virus into people many times and see them die to generate probability that it is deadly!

I did not know that Bayes theorem actually combines prior probability and the likelihood data you collected on the field for your current study to generate the posterior probability distribution!

I did not know that Thomas Bayes was a pastor and his theory was so opposed to during his time. It was only after Ronald Fisher died that Bayesian inference gain favor especially in medical field.

I did not know...well...almost anything at all about statistics!

It changed the way I look at statistics basically. But I self-taught myself into statistics for close to 9 years and of course I get it wrong most of the time; now I realize that for the umpph-th time. And for that, I hope the statistics power that be forgives me. Since this boot camp was so effective, I believe it is due to their effort in developing and executing the activities that demonstrates what probability distribution models we were observing. In fact, I wrote down the activities next to the topic just to remember what the deal was. Some of the stuffs covered are basics on Binomial Distribution, Poisson Distribution, Normal/Gaussian Distribution, Posterior probability, Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE), AIC, BACI, SECR, Occupancy and Survival probability. Yes...exhausting and I have to say, it wasn't easy. I could listen and distracted by paper falling for a fraction of time just to find myself lost in the barrage of information. What saved me was the fact that we have quizzes that we have to fill in to evaluate our understanding of the topic for the day and discuss them first thing in the next session. Best of all, we were using R with the following packages: wiqid, unmarked, rjags and rasters. Best locations for camera traps installation was discussed as well and all possible circumstances of your data; management and collection itself on the field, were covered rigorously.

For any of you guys out there who are doing wildlife study, I believe that this boot camp contains quintessential information for you to understand to design your study better. Because once the data is produced, all we can do it dance around finding justification of some common pitfalls that we could've countered quite easily.

In conclusion, not only that this workshop cast data analysis in a new light for me, but it also helps establishes the correct steps and enunciates the requirements to gain most out of your data. And in my case, it has not only let me understand what could be going on with my pals who go out into the jungle to observe the wildlife first hand, it has also given me ideas on looking for the resources that implements Bayesian statistics/methods on remote sensing and GI in general. Eventhough location analysis was not discussed beyond placing the locations of observation and occasions on the map, I am optimistic in further expanding what I understood into some of the stuff I'm planning; habitat suitability modeling and how to not start image classification from scratch...every single time if that's even possible.

For more information on more workshops by BCSS or wildlife study design and the tools involved, check out the links below:

And do check out some of these cool websites that I have referred to for more information as well as practice. Just to keep those brain muscles in loop with these 'new' concepts:

Probability Concepts Explained: Bayesian Inference for Parameter Estimation by Jonny Brooks-Bartlett

I'll be posting some of the things I am working on while utilizing the Bayesian stats. I'd love to see yours too!

P/S: Some people prefer to use base R with its simple interface, but if you're the type who works better with everything within your focal-view, I suggest you install RStudio. It's an IDE for R that helps to ease the 'anxiety' of using base R.

P/S/S: Oh! Oh! This is the most important part of all. If you're using ArcGIS Pro like I do, did you know that it has R-Bridge that can enable the accessibility of R workspace in ArcGIS Pro? Supercool right?! If you want to know more on how to do that, check out this short 2 hour course on how to get the extension in and an example on how to use it:
