Yo anyone else developing a phobia of asking for help since all the people who are willing to help you require your allegiance to an abusive cult to acknowledge your existence 😎

I'm learning that being in a high control group has made me a fantastic actor. I had doubts for years and while I felt a lot of guilt, I also just couldn't make myself feel or act how I knew I was excepted to. So I leaned hard into the shy sweet girl archetype. Sure they think I'm at least 5 years younger than I am, but I can do the bare minimum and ignore uncomfortable topics out of "nervousness".

The real me is opinionated, blunt, and consistently makes jokes. My family will tell others this, but they don't often believe them. It goes unquestioned and gives me some freedom. Still, I will be extremely relieved when I can retire the role.

It's interesting to me how people in high control groups believe they are being persecuted despite being heavily supported by governments and their culture. From my own experience, I think its easy to pretend your feelings of embarrassment caused by your own doubts about the group, are actually a result of "the world looking down on us". I would see people joking about us or about other Christians and feel terrible because I agreed with their points, but internalized it as "they hate me". Still, seeing content like this helped sort through my feelings even though at the time I wished it would just go away.

I forgot I wrote this 😂

What was I on?

According to the Bible: Every hardship has a reason.

that reason being that your gods oc and he wants to give you so much trauma.

He'll show the angels and say, "look at this one! I killed their dad, made their mom a deranged sociopath, and their autistic! Now let me tell you about all their lore and character arc!" And you just have to sit there and wonder what you ever did wrong.

(This is coming from an ex-christian.)

No hate towards anybody who's not an asshole, but I find it so funny that the tag I use to help me write the queer villain of my smutty fan-fic is also the one where the "loving" and "kind" Christians " express their shock because atheists don't want innocent people to be tortured for eternity but then also don't want convicted murderers and pedophiles getting into Heaven because they said the magic words right before they died. What a contradiction! Don't you know that anyone who doesn't believe in God is literally Hitler?

whoever said healing was a never-ending process can take a seat for a second, because i have something to say.

no, healing doesn't stop. but it's not linear either. take breaks from your healing.

you can't work out at the gym 24/7, you'd pass out and eventually die on the gym floor. you have to stop for food, water, bathroom breaks, and sleep bare minimum, not to mention that exercising outside of every bodily function WOULD kill you. you have to have days you don't go to the gym. why would deconstructing be any different?

if you are unpacking trauma and healing old bad habits, you have to have days where maybe you don't make considerable progress, but you take some time to feel good about the progress you've made already. maybe you sit outside for a bit and think about how you would have dealt with current situations as the old you vs how you handle them now. what has changed, about your surroundings and you?

recognizing your progress is just as an important part of growth as the growth itself is, and if you don't take some time to rest and heal from the healing, you will have no strength left to tackle those dark parts of you.

rest. take a breath. revel in your success so far, and get back up the next day. it's okay to pause and catch your balance before you stumble.

It's okay to take a break from deconstructing growing up in a cult and being terrified with the teachings of Christian fundamentalism and evangelicalism right?

I just need some reassurance because I feel like a failure because I'm so emotionally overwhelmed between this and my job.

it's really weird having a first dog be blind and then getting a second who can see...like how was I supposed to be prepared for this.

this creature can perceive when I put the treats up on the high shelf. or when I hide stuff behind my back. I can't fool her!! she's always watching me and she shouldn't have this much knowledge!!!

I walk around at night and I shine my flash light directly into her eyes and I'll just be standing there staring at her weird blue orbs for like 5 seconds until I realize it's probably extremely annoying to her, because she has eyes!! I'll turn on the light in the room and she gruffs and grumbles like ?? oh right!! light wakes you up!! the fuck??

Just saw another "if you hurt people because of your faith you don't really have any faith" post, and wanted to point out once again that this weird thing we do where we pretend that "real" religion is incapable of doing harm isn't doing us any favors. Of course people with "real" faith can hurt people! Christians beat their queer kids because they have real faith that being queer gets you tortured forever after you die, and that beating kids is a 100% god-approved activity! India's beef vigilantes kill their Muslim neighbors because they have real faith that cows are sacred animals that shouldn't be killed!

Stop this No True Scotsman shit! All it does is cede the moral high ground in every situation to religious belief, automatically agreeing that religion makes you a better person, and anything that makes you a worse person can't be religion.

Actually, ex-Christians have earned the right to make fun of Christianity. It comes free with the religious trauma.

I can’t think of nothing more cruel than forcing a woman to gestate the child of a rapist because you believe that your imaginary omnipotent friend will be angry otherwise. It’s barbaric.

Hopefully this isn’t something that happens outside of the internet, but i wanna say that no matter how much you’ve been hurt by religion or religious people, do NOT sexualize women who practice modesty for religious purposes, even if it’s out of spite. I saw this going around online and their excuses are always related to their religious trauma regarding purity culture.

I know they have a grudge and many of us do, but sexualizing them only causes harm and does absolutely nothing to criticize religion. I’ve seen (mostly male) atheists who would edit photos of modest religious women (including hijabis and nuns) to put them in clothing that they would never be comfortable in. The sexualization is misogyny disguised as criticism of religion.

“Not To Shade Religious People But It’s Kinda Chilling How Some Folks Praise Abraham For Being Willing

“Not to shade religious people but it’s kinda chilling how some folks praise Abraham for being willing to kill Isaac for God to prove his devotion. Like idk about y’all, but if God told me to kill my son i’d kinda be like maybe this isn’t the god for me.”

Religion prioritizes submission, devotion, obedience, blind faith, etc. so it’s obvious what that tale was trying to do. They’re telling the followers that they will be rewarded for putting their god above any other.

“You must submit, but you have to do it willingly (like Abraham), forced submission is the same as no submission.”

They’re portraying this behavior as something to be praised and something to strive for. Abrahamic religions only give the illusion of “choice”. The tale is used to keep the followers in line while making them think that they’re admirable and worthy of praise because they chose to submit.
